Ayan, Albert J.

 ayan-albert

Albert John Ayan was born on July 25, 1917, the oldest of the six children of Albert Ayan and Solveig (Pretorius) Ayan, .  He passed into eternity peacefully on December 4th, 2016 with family by his side. Al grew up in Hyde Park, MA, attending school there through high school. During WWII he worked at MIT on the first worldwide radio navigation system. He was unhappy he wasn’t allowed to enlist in the military, when his two brothers and many of his friends joined, because his job was deemed to be essential to the national interest.

After the war, Al lived in Roslindale working as a machinist at Baird Atomic in Cambridge and as a senior buyer for Raytheon. He loved his work. Al retired at 65 and took up golfing, and for most of his retirement years, walked about 3 miles every day. He lived independently until he was 96, when he moved to an assisted living facility near his son John. He was a proud and involved member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Roslindale, MA for 81 years where he was the head usher, treasurer and trustee.

Albert was an enthusiastic supporter of Boston sports teams, and especially the Red Sox.  We’re all glad he lived long enough to see the Red Sox win the World Series. Albert was a faithful Christian man, devoted to his wife Rose for 68 years until her death in 2009. He loved his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Albert rarely got angry and was a kind and appreciative man.  Even when faced with the difficulties and frustrations of old age, he was a joyful, peaceful person to be around.

He is survived by his sister, Clara Marsh (husband Bill) of Stanton, CA, and children, Carolyn Marie Moore (husband Harvey) of So. Yarmouth, MA, John Albert Ayan (wife Elayne) of Longmeadow, MA and Robert Charles Ayan (wife LeeAnna) of Wesley Chapel, FL as well as his grandchildren Sandra Moore Kane, Jason Ayan, Justin Ayan, and Joy Ayan as well as six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Albert was preceded in death by his wife Rose (DiModica); siblings George Ayan, Margaret Sullivan, Lillian Cosgrove, and Frank Ayan; and grandchildren Anna Ayan, Natasha Ayan and Hilary Ayan. Albert’s life was a blessing from God. He will be lovingly missed, but we celebrate his homecoming with his Lord and his reunion with his beloved Rose.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, December 10th from 10 to 11 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 11 o clock.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Bethany UNited Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 100 Cummins Highway, Roslindale, MA 02131 would be appreciated.
