David “Darby” Henry Wohler, devoted husband of the late Mary Theresa (Muir)Wohler, passed away on August 19, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 84 years old and a three time cancer survivor. Darby was born December 07, 1931 in Norwood, Massachusetts to Henry and Abigail (Healy) Wohler. Upon graduating from Norwood High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was a decorated combat veteran in the Korean War earning two purple hearts, a Korean service medal, two bronze stars, a combat infantry badge and the Presidential Unit Citation. Darby worked for Polaroid Corporation as a dispensing technician and retired in 1993. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his friends, children and grandchildren. His passion was training and competing with beagles and he was a long term active member of the Tri-County Beagle Club in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Nothing made him happier than being with his family.
Three brothers, Robert, Charles and Ernest Wohler, predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter Karen Smith of Norwood, his sons, David Wohler and his wife Mary of Raynham, Michael Wohler and his wife Lita of Walpole and Patrick Wohler and his wife Laureen of Lakeville; as well as eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 4 to 8PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood, MA. In lieu of flowers donations to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 would be appreciated. There will be a private family interment with military honors held in the Highland Cemetery in Norwood at a later date.
