Anderson, Robert E.
Robert Evans Anderson, a resident of the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts, died there Thursday, June 4th, 2009 after a long illness. He was 71. Robert was born April 3, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, the only son of the late Evans and Margaret (Swain) Anderson. He grew up in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School. Robert served in the US Marine Corp from 1957 to 1964 as a staff sergeant. He worked for many years as a security guard at the Gardner Museum in Boston. Bob was an avid collector of stamps, coins and marine memorabilia, and was very proud of his Marine service. He especially liked the solitude of the long walks he would take with his beloved dog “Dusty”. He also enjoyed time spent with all his friends at the VA Hospital. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0036 of Roslindale, and an honorary lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, #1445 of Winchester. Robert is survived by his two sisters, Evana Maggiore of Winchester, and Astrid Cahill of Dickson, Tennessee. A graveside service will be held Tuesday June 9th at 11AM at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the US Marines Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle, Virginia 22172 would be appreciated.
