Gallagher, Robert H.

Robert Henry Gallagher, a resident of Mattapan for 57 years, and of West Roxbury for the past 6 years, died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Highgate Manor Nursing Home in Dedham.  He was 88. Robert was born July 22, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Myles Raymond, and Rose Elizabeth (Stachober) Gallagher.  He grew up in Detroit and then earned his Associate degree from Northeastern University in Boston.  Robert served in the US Navy during both World War Two and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in August of 1951.  He retired in 1989 after working for 15 years as a mechanical engineer for MIT Draper labs in Cambridge.  Roland was a Past Master of Mount Lebanon Lodge AF & AM of Boston where he held a membership for over 50 years.  He was also a Life Member of the Jacob Jones Post 2017 of the VFW; a member of DAV Chapter 42; a member of American Legion Post 78; a founding member of Irish American Post 1; and a Past Commander of the Amputee Veterans.  In addition, he was a former volunteer for the Boston Museum of Science and a former Board Member of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.  Robert was the husband of the late Dorothy Alice (Conlin) Gallagher to whom he was married  for 61 years.  He is survived by his five children, Robert W. Gallagher of West Roxbury, Donald G. gallagher of Newtonville, Elizabeth A. McFarland of Illinois, David F. Gallagher of Iowa, and Thomas E. Gallagher of Virginia; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held Sunday, May 1st from 4 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale, with a Masonic Service at 7PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend Robert’s funeral Monday, May 2, 2016 at 10 am at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors at the Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinatti, Ohio, 45250 would be appreciated.
