Beryl W. (Dowling) Swiatkowski,, age 92, of Attleboro, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the Ellis Nursing Center in Norwood, MA. The beloved wife of the late John W. Swiatkowski and the loving daughter of the late Rev. Herbert J. and Elizabeth A. (Full) Dowling, she was born in Providence, RI on October 22,1923 and raised in Pascoag and Pawtucket, RI.
Beryl was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Providence. She attended Bryant College where she earned an associate degree. Later, she was employed by The Foxboro Company in Foxboro, MA where she served as an executive secretary in the Corporate Communications Department. Beryl was a long-standing member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Attleboro where she served on the altar guild and fair committees for many years. A long-time member of the Attleboro Round Table, where she served as president, she enjoyed group activities, fundraising, and visits to residents of area nursing homes.
Music always played an important role in her life. She loved to sing. Having learned to play the piano as a youngster, she went on to play at church services and later as a piano teacher in Pawtucket, RI. Other interests included playing bridge, knitting, sewing, tole painting, and cooking.
Beryl was a loving and devoted friend to many, a Mom and Nana who adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found countless ways to share in their lives and brought them all much joy. She will be remembered for festive holiday gatherings, afternoon tea and her famous lemon squares, knitting countless baby sweaters and bonnets, and colorful crocheted afghans. Her kind-hearted, loving, gentle spirit was noticed and appreciated by everyone who knew her.
Beryl is survived by her daughter, Cynthia, and her husband Tony Cintolo of Medfield, MA, her son, Bruce, and his wife Marcia Read of Pascoag, RI, and her daughter, Denise, and her husband Neal Swanson of Chelmsford, MA, her step-daughter, Kasha Swiatkowski of Norton, MA, and her step-daughter, Barbara and her husband Hugo Palacious of Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Brian, Matthew and his wife, Tina, Michael and his wife, Erika, Becci, Amanda and her husband, Rick, Meagan, Daryl, Alexandra, and ten great-grandchildren.
Beryl is survived by her brother, John Dowling, and a former sister-in-law Carol, and her husband William Berndt, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty and her husband, Bob Spratt, and her sister- in- law, Ruth Dowling, her former sister-in-law, Janice and her husband Alfred Hutchinson, her former sister-in-law Barbara and her husband David Smith, and her former husband Franklin Read.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am on Thursday, April 28th at Grace Episcopal Church, 150 Chapel Street in Norwood, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, tribute/memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Associations at alz.org.
