Phillips, Richard S.
Richard Samuel Phillips, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was 91. Richard was born November 25, 1924 in Waltham, Massachusetts, the son of Samuel R. and Jessie (MacArthur) Phillips, immigrants from Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was inducted in to the US Army in 1943 and spent two years in the Headquarter’s Company, 16th Tank battalion until his honorable discharge in 1945. Richard worked as a custodian for the Brookline Public Schools. He was the husband of the late Elaine M. (Doucette) Phillips who predeceased him in 1974. He is survived by his nieces; Carol Teel of Amesbury, Marianne Donnelly and her husband Edward of Plum Island, MA, Susan Phillips of Florida, Sandra Foster of North Carolina and nephews; Charles Phillips and his wife Linda of Brookline, Robert Phillips and his wife Joan Gannon-Phillips of Framingham, William Phillips and his wife Sharon of Plum Island, MA and Larry Halloran of Ohio. He was predeceased by his nephew, John P. Phillips. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 11:30 am to 1:30 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St, Westwood. Richard’s funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in the Old Westwood Cemetery.
