Early, Mary
Mary Mackay (Doyle) Early a resident of Norwood for 65 years, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her home in Norwood. She was 98. Mary was born in Islington, Massachusetts, the daughter of Michael and Jessie M. (Mackay) Doyle. She graduated from Dedham High School (because Westwood did not have a High School then) and then graduated from Mrs. Gillis’ Business School. Mary worked as the Executive Secretary for Penn Oil Company, then as a secretary for Plimpton Press in Norwood, and finally as a clerk for Kodex Book Company. She was an accomplished ice skater and a devoted hockey fan. She also enjoyed travel, especially to the Orkney Islands, an archipelago in Scotland, where she and her husband Arthur visited fourteen times. She was a longtime member of the Islington Community Church until its closing, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Westwood. Mary is survived by her husband of 72 years, Arthur James Early; her daughter, Marilyn J. Aylward, and her husband Richard, of Newtown, Connecticut; her son, David J. Early of Moultonboro, New Hampshire; her four grandchildren, Christopher Aylward, Jeffrey Aylward, Cheryl Kerrigan, and Danielle E. Early; as well as six great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late William B. Doyle, and the late Jessie Potenza. Visiting hours will be held THursday from noon till 1 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by a service in the funeral home at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Old Westwood Cemetery, Westwood. In lieu of flowers donations to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA 02090 or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
So many happy memories of Mary on her frequent visits to her mothers old home here in Orkney. Her spirit is now free to visit again .
