Johnson, Rena

Johnson, Rena M picture

Johnson, Rena Marguerite (née Fraser) entered eternal life on January 11, 2016.  Her loving spirit is carried on by her two children, five grandchildren, two daughters-in-law; and an extended family of relations and friends from all walks of life.  Rena is now reunited with her predeceased and dearly devoted husband, Larry and her three siblings.  We were blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Rena during her wonderful 92 years of life, among them, be positive or be quiet. Rena always had a pleasing smile and was blessed to have perpetually youthful, beautiful skin. Rena most recently was a resident of Middletown, CT, had previously lived in Westwood, MA; and for over fifty years was a resident of Wellesley Hills, MA.  Rena was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada and immigrated to the United States upon graduating with highest honors from Gordon College, then located in Boston, MA, with a double major in philosophy and religion.  Rena was a member of Park St. Church in Boston, MA for sixty-five years.  A private, graveside burial service will be held in Wellesley, MA and memorial services will be scheduled later at Park St. Church in Boston, MA and at Fox Hill Village, in Westwood, MA.  “…I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” – 2 Timothy 4:7.  Donations in Rena’s memory may be sent to Park St. Church, One Park St., Boston, MA 02108, please designate to missions fund.

While I never met you, I know you through your son, Brian. A godly man of exceptional character, I know you were very great influence in his development. Jesus is proud, and I know you will love your time with him.

My heart goes out to the Johnson family on the loss of Rena. My heart is saddened over losing a dear, faithful friend. Rena was so encouraging and supportive of me. She was a wonderful, graceful woman who I admired and respected. Her loving heart touched me and I know many others were touched by her kindness. I know the gentleness of her spirit will continue to touch others.

I met Rena about 9 years ago, when I moved to Fox Hill Village, a retirement community in Westwood, Massachusetts, of which Rena was a resident. I was immediately struck by Rena’s warmth and intelligence, and that first impression of Rena was only reinforced over the years. Rena and I, together with a couple of mutual friends, had a standing date to have dinner together every Saturday evening in the Fox Hill Village Cafe. After Rena moved to Connecticut, the rest of us kept her seat vacant. We all draw strength from her memory.

I first met Rena when were both college students and had summer jobs helping teach a summer school program at the Dexter School in Brookline, MA (same school and classrooms President John F. Kennedy had previously attended).
Over the many years I’ve known Rena, she was the most wonderful, dear friend. She had a wonderful charm and grace to her persona but was down to earth, very approachable, very sincere and simply pleasing and gentle to be around. Rena was also a trivia expert who was impossible to stump, but she was a graceful winner. I’ll dearly miss you Rena. My sincerest condolences to the Johnson family.
