MacLaren, Janet A. H.
Janet Abigail(Hargraves) MacLaren of Medway passed away on September 5, 2015 at the age of 92. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Donald S. and Janet A. (Campbell) Hargraves. She was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and Cambridge Jr. College. Janet enlisted into the United States Navy on February 9, 1943. She was a Pharmacist Mate First Class. Her commendations consisted of American Area and Asiatic Pacific WWII Victory Medal. She was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945 then continued in the Inactive Reserve from October 1946 to March of 1950. On April 22, 1950 she married Russell Noble MacLaren at the Hannah Tenney Memorial Methodist Church in Salem, NH. Russell passed away in 1976 in Asheville, NC and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Before retiring, Janet was on staff of the Episcopal Bishop, Diocese of Western North Carolina, Black Mountain, NC for 19 years. When moving to Medway, she became active in the community. She was a member of Christ Church of Medway, the American Legion Post #367, the VFW Post #1526 and the Medway Friends of Elders. She was part of Clan Campbell Society of N.A. Some of Janet’s interests included gardening, bingo and playing bridge. She also enjoyed the special events at the Medway Senior Center.
She is survived by her daughter L. Gail Rao, and hr husband Paul E., of Medway and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private. She will be interred in the Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made in her memory to a charity that supports veterans or seniors.
