Kharibian, Joseph
Joseph Kharibian, a resident of Highland Glen in Westwood, and the owner and florist at Joseph’s Flowers in Roslindale, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Charlwell Nursing Home in Norwood. He was 91. Joseph was born July 3, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of Krikor and Alice (Tarpinian) Kharibian, immigrants from Armenia. After High School, Joseph was inducted into the US Navy during World War Two and served on the USS Idaho until his honorable discharge in 1944. He then attended Amherst College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Floral Design. He ran his flower shop in Roslindale Square, Joseph’s Flowers, for many years until he closed his shop about twenty years ago. Even in his retirement, he continued to indulge in his floral activities from his home at Highland Glen in Westwood, where he could utilize the greenhouse and delight his neighbors with his beautiful flower gardens. Joseph was the husband of the late Irene (Hagopian) Kharibian who predeceased him in 2001, and the father of the late Paul J. Kharibian and of the late Hope Kharibian; and the brother of the late Leo Kharibian. Joseph is survived by his daughter, Faith Rabuffetti of Randolph; his grandaughter, Samantha Joe Kharibian of Rhode Island; his two great grandsons, Christian and Julian; and his sister, Naomi Johnson, and her husband Mike, of Connecticut. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, January 31st from 3 to 6 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood. Interment will be private.
