Munroe, Herbert C.
Herbert Chester Munroe, Jr., a lifelong resident of Westwood, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. He was 84. Herb was born July 7, 1930 in Norwood, Massachusetts, the only son of Herbert C. and Doris (Munyon) White Munroe Sr. He was a graduate of Westwood High School and attended Northeasstern University before being inducted into the US Army where he served as a Corporal E-4 during the Korean War. Herb was an insurance agent and the owner of Westwood Insurance Agency for 50 years until his retirement in the mid 2000’s. He was a member of the Westwood Lions Club, the Westwood Boosters Club, and a member of Celestial Lodge AF & AM (formerly Eliot-Hyde Park Lodge) of Westwood. Herb was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Westwood having served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was an avid golfer, loved movies, and was renowed for his sense of humor and the jokes he told. Herb is survived by his wife, Shirley E. (Carroll) Munroe; his two sons, Donald K. Munroe, and his wife Patty, of Plymouth, and Douglas A. Munroe, and his wife Leslie, of Norwood; his three daughters, Pamela S. Spencer, and her husband John, of Plymouth, Jeanne M. Broderick, and her husband Walter, of McCaysville, Georgia, and Marjorie Davin, and her husband Thomas, of Kensington, Maryland; as well as 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Herb was the brother of the late Barbara Alcott. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Thursday, October 30th at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church of Westwood, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA. Private interment will be in the Old Westwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of MA, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 would be appreciated.

Herb was a true Honest to God great friend and we will miss him.
My sincere condolences to Pam and the entire Munroe family. Herb was always a gentleman and ALWAYS had a Smile on his face and a quick joke or something funny to say to make your day a little brighter! Herb loved his golf, his business and his friends But nothing came before his wonderful Family! Try to remember those great memories to help you through this difficult time! Those Happy memories are yours to cherish forever! God bless you all as you remember Herb. A devoted family man and great friend to all that knew him. May he rest in peace.

I was so sorry to hear about Herb. Such great memories from growing up in the old neighborhood. I can still hear his wonderful laugh and see his sweet smile. My thoughts, as well as the thoughts and prayers of the whole Dion Family are with you all.

herbie was a wonderful man always keeping us laughing! we always enjoyed having him come into the flower shop when my dad had it! i guess they are all in a back room up there telling jokes and having a drink! love to all! i miss the westwood area,big big hugs shirley love ya always, laura buchanan and the orginal westwood gardens flower shop family!
