Udden, Constance B.

Constance Beverly “Connie” (Larsen) Udden, a resident of Norwood since 1964, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Norwood Hospital.  She was 77.  Connie was born December 6, 1936 in Boston, Massachusetts, the only daughter of Rudolph and Ruth Sophie (Lunde) Larsen.  She grew up in the Riverdale section of Dedham and graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1954.  Connie started her working career as a Parish Worker at the Covenant Congregational Church, and then as a Customer Service Representative at the Elm Street branch of the Dedham Institution for Savings, and finally in the human resources department at the Dedham Medical Associates in Norwood.  Constance was a lifelong member of the Covenant Congregational Church in Forest Hills, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School for 60 years, was a member of the Rhoda Guild, and a deaconess who diligently visited sick and shut in members of the congregation.  Her son affectionately dubbed her the “world heavyweight champion of Hallmark cards”.  Connie’s family and her “church family” were the center of her life.  She also loved birds, especially sparrows.  Constance is survived by her beloved husband, Paul Gustav Udden; her daughter, Linnea Ruth Udden of Norwood; her sons, Stephen Paul, and his wife Katherine Swift Udden, of Foxboro, and Christopher John Udden of Norwood; her brother, Harry Larsen of New Zealand; her four grandchildren, Marlena Eve, Gustav Lars, Sophia Joie, and Tessa Grace; and her two nieces, Kimberly and Jess Larsen.  Connie was the stepdaughter of the late Reverend Hans Froysland.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 PM at the Covenant Congregational Church, 455 Arborway, Forest Hills, MA 02130.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Memorial Fund of the church at the address above, would be appreciated.

I had the honor and the fun and the happy daily anticiation of working with “Conkie” for many years at Dedham Savings. We laughed every single day that we were together and from her I learned such a range of life’s lessons…from having faith in God to never serving anything but Chock Full of Nuts coffee. I will smile everytime I think of her. Paul, Stephen, Linnea, and Chris, always know that the gift you had in your Mother is something that will live in your hearts forever.

My heart was saddened by the news of Connie’s passing. To Paul…you always said when I asked how you were, your response always was “I’m married”. Yes you were, to one of the most amazing people I am happy to call friend. To Linnea, Stephen and Chris, your mom was one of the most kind, compassionate and loving people I know. Always a smile, a kind word or a little nudge of encouragement when needed. She will be greatly missed.
