Hemmer, Edmund P.
Edmund Parker Hemmer, a resident of Norwood since 1959, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the West Roxbury VA Hospital in Boston. He was 83. Ed was born February 4, 1931 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, one of the two sons of Edmund C. and Mary Pearl (Stewart) Hemmer. He graduated from the High School of Commerce in Boston and enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951. He served honorably and was discharged with the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and with the Distinguished Flying Cross. Ed owned and operated the B&E Gulf Service Station in Brighton for 20 years and then spent 18 years as a Sales Representative for Stewart Warner Alemite Corporation in Canton until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Norwood where he served asa Deacon and as Church Moderator for many years. Ed is survived by his wife, Phyllis H. (Kleiner) Hemmer; his daughter, Shirley H. Fickett, and her husband Joel A., of Westford; his three sons, Lawrence E. Hemmer, and his wife TinaMarie, of Mt Airy, Maryland, Robert W. Hemmer, and his wife Kimberlee, of Mason, New Hampshire, and Davis S. and Ian B. Newham of Mountain Dale, New York; and his four grandchildren, Brandi, Kristi, Mariah, and Mitchell. He was the brother of the late Paul S. Hemmer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 3 PM at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter Street, Norwood, MA 02062. Private interment was in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers donations to the First Congregational Church (address above) would be appreciated.
