McNamara, Daniel L.
Daniel Leo McNamara, a resident of Westwood for the past 50 years, and formerly of Roslindale, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Norwood Hospital after a brief illness. He was 95. Daniel was born July 28, 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Lawrence Joseph and Rose E. (Deveney) McNamara. He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School and he enlisted in the US Army in 1942, serving for three years as a Staff Sergeant in the 536th Ordnance Tank Maintenance Campany until his honorable discharge in 1945. Daniel was the former owner of Bellvue Taxi in Roslindale, which he owned for ten years, and worked for 30 years for Kehoe Chrysler in Wellesley from where he retired as a Vice President in 1990. Daniel was a member of VFW post 1274 in Natick and a life member of DAV Post 90 in Norwood. His passion, however was golf, and he was proud of his Honorary Life Membership in the Norfolk Golf Club in Westwood. Daniel was the husband of the late Kathleen Louise (O’Connell) who predeceased him in 2011, and to whom he was married to for 61 years; the father of the late Kathleen McNamara; and the brother of the late Lawrence J. McNamara Jr., and the late Helen R. Sanderson. He is survived by his son, Daniel S. McNamara, and his wife Catherine, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his two grandchildren, Christopher D. McNamara and Jennifer E. McNamara; his great grandson, Carson McNamara; and his nephew Michael Andrews. Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street Westwood at 10 ‘o clock.
