Babcock, Peggy
Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” (Nickerson) Babcock, a longtime resident of West Roxbury, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston. She was 89. Peggy was born December 31, 1924 in Watertown, Massachusetts, a daughter of James and Elizabeth (Howard) Nickerson. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Brookline and worked briefly for AT & T and Radio Shack when she was not busy raising her family. Peggy loved reading and cooking and taking care of her family. She was the wife of the late Stanley George Babcock who predeceased her in 2004, and the sister of the late John Nickerson. Peggy is survived by her son, Stephen D. Babcock, and his wife Jeanne Varney, of Ithica, New York; her daughter Elaine O’Connor of West Roxbury, and her late husband James; her sister, Anna Hogan of Ipswich; her two grandchilddren, Jimmy O’Connor, and his partner Taylor Matsakia, and Lincoln Babcock; and her great granddaughter, Liliana Rose O’Connor. Visiting hours will be held Friday, April 25th from 6 to 8:30 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Bourne on Monday, April 28th at 12:30 PM. Donations in Peggy’s memory to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
Elaine and Stevie et al: Aunt Peggy’s Service was beautiful. I kept hearing Aunt Peggy saying: Stop…enough!!!! but she was truly deserving of all the praise. Jimmy, Lincoln and Steve Great tributes to a great lady and she was a lady..This is from an old hippy feminist. I loved her dearly and I will miss her. She was a good soul and she is at peace..Love to all Beth.
