George Carroll Thomas, veteran police office for the Boston Police Department for 30 years until his retirement in 2009, died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home in Canton. He was 63. George was born June 8, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the five children of Donald C. and Virginia (Wegler) Thomas. He graduated from Boston Technical High School and was drafted into the US Navy where he spent fours years during the Vietnam War; three of those years overseas or at sea on the USS McMorris. George spent most of his time as a Boston Police Ofice working in Area E, covering the neighborhoods of West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and Hyde Park. He was a member of Boston Elks Chapter 10 in West Roxbury, the Amvets, and the Riverside Gun Club. He is survived by his two sons, Donald V. Thomas of Norwood, and Shaun M. Thomas of Walpole; his daughter, Jill A. Easton, of Pasadena, Maryland; his brother, Tim Thomas of Holbrook; his two sisters, Donna Thomas of Stoughton, and Robin Haygood of Norton; his four grandchildren, Michael, Elexus, Derek, and Brody; and his great grandson, Michael. George was the brother of the late Patricia. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 20th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday at 10 AM at the United Church of Norwood, 595 Washington Street, Norwood. Burial with military honors will follow at the National Cemetery at Bourne.
