Newell, Jane
Jane Hallet (Badger) Newell, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Norwood Hospital. She was 92. Jane was born July 21, 1921 in Wellesley, Massachusettes, the daughter of Walter I and Jane Whitman (Bullard) Badger Jr. She graduated from the May School (now Brimmer-May) and attended the New England Conservatory of Music for three years. During World War Two Jane served as a Private First Class in the Massachusetts Women’s Corps and was a Salvation Army member. She later worked as an order clerk for Moore & Kling, Inc. Jane was a Past Worthy Matron for Contentment Chapter #184 of the Order of the Eastern Star, a former President of the Westwood Interfaith Council, a volunteer for the Red Cross, a debutant and member of the Social Register, and a member of the Audubon Society. She is survived by her husband, Clifford A. Newell, Jr; her two sons, Walter C. Newell of Watertown, and Bruce H. Newell of Woburn; her two daughters, Ginger A. Newell-Stokes of South Deerfield, and Wanda Carey of Ashland; her two grandchildren, Jennifer Frappier and R.J. Carey; and her three great grandchildren, Makayla, Jackson and Madison. Jane was the sister of the late Walter I. Badger, III. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, March 5th from 3 to 5 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jane’s funeral Thursday at 11 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 95 Deerfield Avenue, Westwood. Interment will be Thursday afternoon at 1:45 PM the National Cemetery at Bourne. Donations in Jane’s memory to the American Red Cross of MA, 139 Main St., Cambridge, MA 02142 would be appreciated.
