Wilkinson, Marie V. (Butler)
Marie Vivian (Butler) Wilkinson, a long time resident of Norwood, passed away at home on August 31, 2013 at the age of 92 with her family by her side. Marie is the loving wife of the late Harold H. Wilkinson, Jr. and the dear mother of Warren of Norwood, Steven of Stoughton, and Elizabeth of Sydney, Australia. She is the sister of the late Raymond Butler, Louis Butler, Martha Kendrick, and Wilma Swanson.
Marie was born on October 2, 1920 in Bell Island, Newfoundland to William and Annie Butler. She was one of five children. She married Harold and had three children of her own. Marie joined the war effort and did her part by working for the war department. Marie settled in Norwood, and was hired as the secretary to the assistant superintendent of Norwood Public schools until she retired in 1982. Marie was a member of the Women’s Community Committee, a proud volunteer at both Norwood Hospital and the Norwood voting polls, and a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was also an avid bowler, and loved spending time at the Norwood bowling alley with “the girls”. Marie was most proud of being an artisan of the heirloom arts. She created many beautiful hooked and braided carpets by hand, a skill that was passed down through her family from one generation to the next.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service, Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 1PM at Grace Episcopal Church in Norwood. Private interment will be held at Highland Cemetery in Athol, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 150 Chapel St., Norwood, MA 02062.
