Brown, Charles
Charles Joseph Brown, of Dedham, passed away peacefully at the
Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Waltham, MA on March 26,
2013 at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of the late
Antoinette C. (Kowalczyk) who predeceased him on March 12, 2012.
Charles and Antoinette were married for 63 years and raised four
children.
A veteran serving in the U S Navy at the end of World War II, and later
in the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine, Charles met Antoinette
while on leave in the Merchant Marine. Through the G.I bill he later
studied sign painting at the Wagner School of Sign and Commercial Art.
When the first of four children was born he began a 20 year career
as a Firefighter for the town of Dedham.
Music, art, and comedy were lifelong passions for him. He enjoyed
singing, playing the harmonica and was a devoted follower of stand-up
comedy. Prior to becoming a Firefighter, Charles worked for the Holsta
Cabot company as a decorative painter. He had a talent for gardening
which included floral and vegetable gardening which he enthusiastically
pursued for 30 years, providing beautiful gardens and bountiful
harvests that he shared with the neighbors and family. His vibrant,
energetic personality helped him make friends with whomever he met. He
had a great sense of humor and made people laugh. He was a devout
Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in
Dedham, as well as a member of the lay brother Order of Capuchin
Franciscan Friars in Boston. He contributed to numerous charities and
religious organizations.
He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his four
children, Georgia Petrasko (S. Chatham), Dr. Charles S. Brown
(Newtonville), David L. Brown (Boston), and Theresa B. Inman (Dedham);
his six grandchildren, and many cherished, extended family members and
friends.
Funeral from the Folsom Funeral Home 87 Milton St., Dedham. Visiting
hours in the funeral home Friday, April 19 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral
Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 420 High St.,
Dedham at 9 AM on Saturday, April 20. Interment will be at in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
Still miss my Dad. He was such a funny man, always making people laugh. With much love, you are in my thoughts.
