O’Brien, Jean M.
Jean M. (Friend) O’Brien, a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Boston and was a devoted daughter to the late Ford E. and Josephine V. (Slocum) Friend. Jean worked for Analog Devices in Westwood for over 25 years. After her retirement she worked and volunteered for HESSCO, preparing and delivering meals, for 3 years. Jean was a Crossing Officer for the Town of Dedham for 5 years. She was a Girl Scout group leader and she loved to knit. Jean sold and donated many of the items that she made to various charities, including her animal sweaters. She was predeceased by her former husband, James E. O’Brien. Jean is survived by her loving children James E. O’Brien IV, Dedham Planning Board member, and his wife Laura, of Dedham, Lynne M. O’Brien of Dedham, and Gary A. O’Brien of Dedham.; her darling granddaughter, Mairead Josephine O’Brien; her dear sister Elinor J. Fontaine, and her husband John, of Kennebunk, Maine; her nephews John Fontaine, Deputy Fire Chief of the Dedham Fire Department, and his wife Mary, and Brian Fontaine; and her nieces Robin Pye, and her husband James, and Roxanne Fontaine. She is also survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013, from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St. Dedham. Realtives and friends will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8 am and proceed to St. Mary’s Church, 420 High St., Dedham for her Mass of Christian Burial at 9 o clock. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the Victoria Haven Resident Activity Fund, 137 Nichols St., Norwood, MA. 02062

So sorry to hear of your loss.I have fond memories of times spent with Elinor and Jean in our neighborhood. I was always welcome at their house on Emmett Ave. and also enjoyed many dinners with their Mom and Dad who I always looked up to.
