Jones, Catherine I. “Betty”

Catherine Isabelle “Betty” (Orr) Jones, a resident of Westwood for 52 years, died Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood.  She was 96.  Betty was born June 12, 1916 in Roslindale, Massachusetts, the only child of Henry and Isabelle (Harrison) Orr.  She graduated from Girls Latin High School in Boston and took many classes at the Harvard Extension School.  An avid reader, it was very appropriate that Betty worked as a Children’s Librarian at the Westwood Public Library for 22 years.  Betty was the wife of the late John Harold “Jack” Jones, and the mother of the late Gary R. Jones.  She is survived by her daughter, Laurie E. DeVirgilio of Norwood; her two sons, Richard A. Jones of Norwood, and Stephen G. Jones of Revere; seven grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.  Visitation with Betty’s family will be held from 2 to 3 PM Thursday, December 6th at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home at 3 PM.  Private interment will be in the New Westwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations in Betty’s memory to the Friends of the Westwood Library, 668 High Street, Westwood, MA 02090 would be appreciated.

Dear Dick, Sharon, Laurie and everyone,
I’m sad to learn about the loss of Betty. I remember her well, as she was a regular visitor at Sharon and Dick’s when the kids were little. She was always charming, friendly, smiley, polite and a very sweet women.
I’ll be there on Thursday not only to grieve the loss of a wonderful woman, but also to celebrate her long and wonderful life.
    Love,

    Dear Laurie and Gary,
You know how I felt about “Mum”. She was a strong, spirited and humane soul. I can’t believe the world will no longer have her in it. But she will be around…you’ll still see her, sporting her deep lipstick, fancy scarves and beautiful Scottish cheek bones and of course a glass of Scotch. How many times we laughed over the years! I can still see her shoulders shaking as she giggled. And Laurie, remember…just like she is resting, you will find peace in your soul, knowing that you were her everything. Gary..she was your special Grandma and special to all who knew her. I know you are hurting because I know the depth of your love for her. And she was so proud of the wonderful man you have become. I love you guys and will see you on Thursday XOXO
