Prest, Thomas R.
Thomas Roy Prest, also known as “Big T”, a long time resident of Hyde Park and formerly of Brighton, died Monday, October 1, 2012. He was 90. Mr. Prest was born in Boston, the son of Charles H. and Cassie M. (McDonald) Prest. He joined the United States Army in 1942 and was discharged as a sergeant in 1946. Mr. Prest received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal during his service in World War II. He worked as a truck driver for J. H. McNamara Company in Brighton for over 35 years until his retirement in 1978. Thomas was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #379. Mr. Prest was an avid golfer. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel E. (Stein) Prest and his son Steven R. Prest. Thomas is survived by his daughter Carol L. Roy of Roslindale; his son Albert C. Prest of West Roxbury; his daughters-in-law Donna Prest of Hollis New Hampshire and Karen Prest of West Roxbury; and his brother Charles Prest of Valrico, Florida. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Thomas was the brother of the late Robert Prest. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 4, 2012, from 5-8 pm at Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Needham Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
Hi Carol and Gitza. …so sorry to hear about your Dad. He really held that neighborhood together for many years.
I’m sorry I can’t make the service, but am so glad I got to see him when I was in Boston last June. He will be missed.
