Martin, Harold J. “Marty”
Harold J. Martin, known as Marty to many, a lifelong resident of Readville and Popponesset Beach for 40 years, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, after a brief illness. He was 74 years old. Marty was born in Boston, the son of the late Wilhelm and Martha (Strand) Martin. He graduated from Hyde Park High School. In 2009 he retired from the City of Boston Elder Commission where he had worked for over 20 years. Marty is also remembered from the old Ricco’s Tavern Bar, across the street from the police station in Hyde Park, where he worked for many years, as well as working at Allis Chalmers. He volunteered for many years with the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Marty is survived by his wife of 19 years Carol P. Finn-Martin of Readville and Cape Cod; his sisters Thelma, and her husband Gordon, of Avon, Alice Rogers of Texas, and Marjorie, and her husband Rolf, of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by his sisters- in-law Ellen Sweeney, and Nancy Webster, and her fiance Michael Ward, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert A. Martin, William Martin and Caroline Loscocco. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012, from 4-8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am at Allin Congregational Church, 683 High Street, Dedham. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers donations in Marty’s memory may be made to the Massachusetts Special Olympics, 512 Forest Street, Marlboro, MA. 01752.

Upon hearing of Marty’s passing I was deeply saddened. I instantly remembered his smiling face, his kind disposition and his genuine desire to make life better for everyone he met. Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of everyone at Special Olympics Massachusetts.
