Hansen, Eunice I.
Eunice Irene (Thelander) Hansen, of Norwood, formerly a resident of Westwood for over 40 years, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Nowood, after a long illness. She was 81. Eunice was the daughter of the late Ole and Christine (Knutson) Thelander. She was born and grew up in Cokato, Minnesota. Eunice received her BA in Speech and English at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Throughout her career as a teacher she taught spanish classes, English as a second language, nursery school and was a substitute teacher. She also taught at the Westwood Middle School. Prior to her retirement she also worked for Bank of America in Canton for 11 years as a Mortgage Loan Processor. Eunice was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Norwood for over 40 years. She was Past President of the Women’s Club, Bible Study group, and a member of the church choir for 40 years. She also enjoyed her time with the Westwood Newcomers Group. Eunice loved her family and playing bridge. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward R. Hansen; her daughter, Karen E. VanHerwarde; and her sister, Betty Hansen. She is survived by her daughter Krisitn M. Haroian of Salem, NH, and her son Steven E. Hansen of Shrewsbury; and her grandchildren Sean, Meghan, Rebecca, Carl, Edward, Thomas and Jeremy. A funeral service was held Friday December 2, 2011 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church followed by burial in Old Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.
