Roehr, Robert W.
Robert William Roehr, a resident of Norwood for many years, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Deutsches Altenheim in West Roxbury after a long illness. He was 82. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Chester H. and Margaret (Roach) Roehr. Robert graduated from Washington University College in St. Louis. After graduation he joined the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1953. When he returned from the war he continued his education at the University of Illinois and earned his Masters degree in Library Science. He went on to become the St. Louis Public Library Director for 15 years, served as the Assistant Library Director for Ohio State for one year, then joined the Pueblo Colorado Main Library as Director for 10 years. He retired from that position to move to Massachusetts where he then became the Assistant Library Director for the Weymouth Public Library and was there for 9 years. Mr. Roehr was a member of the American Library Association. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, the late Chester H. Roehr Jr. Robert is survived by his sister Jule M. Salladin of Norwood, and his niece, Margaret “Meg” Salladin also of Norwood, who was like a daughter to him. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
