Galt, Sally Ann
DEDHAM,MA.-Sally Ann Galt,74, daughter of the late William and Thelma (Simmons) Galt died at home Monday, November 7th after a short illness. Born in Boston she was a lifelong Dedham resident. She graduated from Simmons College and received a master’s degree from Boston University. In 1960 she was hired to organize and set the standards for the first speech and language pathology program K-12 in the Dedham Public Schools. Ms. Galt, who was highly respected by her colleagues, built a strong department collaborating with teachers, specialists, parents and outside services to make the still on-going program a success.
Recognized as an expert in her field, she was honored on several occasions both by the Massachusetts and American Speech/Hearing Associations. In addition, she served on the Adjunct Faculty at Boston University’s Sargent School of Applied Health Sciences where she gave lectures and supervised graduate students’ practice teaching. She was appointed by the Dedham Visiting Nurse Association’s to a citizens advisory board that pioneered residential health care.
Ms. Galt was a strong believer in giving back to the community. She volunteered at the Dedham Food Pantry and was active in the Dedham Women’s Club. Highlights in her retiring years included planning luncheons and day trips for the older ladies, many of whom were friends of her mother at St. John’s United Methodist Church. More recently as a member of Allin Congregational church, Ms. Gallt became known for her culinary and knitting talents offering many baked donations and hand knitted winter scarves and hats for Allin Church’s service to the Shattuck Shelter. She loved music and theater and often played the piano for the enjoyment of residents at a local assisted living complex.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Allin Congregational Church, 683 High Street, Dedham, followed by a collation in the church Fireside Room. Jim and I are very saddened by the loss of our classmate from Dedham High School days . Sally was a dear friend of mine( Joyce ) and I will miss her newsy notes at Christmas but will cherish the many memories from high school. college days ! Prayers and love are sent ——
Sally will be sadly missed. We grew up together at Ogunquit in the summers when we were young and have kept in contact via newsy Christmas cards since. She was always such a beautiful person. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.

So shocked to hear of Sallys passing. She was one of my first friends in Dedham, and W\we went all through school together.

Sally and Carolann came with us on many of our trips. We became friends. I am so sorry to hear of Sally’s passing. We had a lot of fun on our little adventures.
