Walls, Thomas R.
Thomas R. Walls, 88, formerly of Westwood, MA passed away in the early morning hours of August, 19 2011 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, CT with his family by his side.
He was born on December 9, 1922 in Holbrook, MA, the son of Myrtle (Cole) Walls. He graduated from Holbrook High School and went on to serve 4 years in the U.S. army as part of the 29th Infantry Division where he was a communications sergeant and rifleman. After battles on Omaha Beach, Saint-Lὂ and Brest France, and with several distinguished service awards, he returned to the states and built several homes in Westwood, MA.
Tom worked as a master mason for several construction companies throughout the Boston and Providence areas. His brickwork can be seen at many of the colleges, universities, churches throughout New England. After 30 years as a mason, he went on to work for Fisher Roses and greenhouses in Norwood, MA and for the Town of Medfield school department. An avid reader and WWII historian, he wrote for several years for his “The Twenty-Niner” newsletter published by the 29th Division Association.
Tom was married to Helen F. (Nolan) in 1960 and had two daughters, Christine Walls (predeceased) and Helene (Walls) Bouchard. He is survived by is his wife Helen, daughter Helene Walls-Bouchard, son-in-law Normand and grandson Christopher all of Oakdale, CT; and niece Gloria Albee (NJ). His ashes will be buried in the New Westwood Cemetery.
