O’Brien, Janette L.
Janette Lindsay (Aptt) O’Brien, a lifelong resident of West Roxbury, died Thursday, January 6th, 2011 at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain after several months of declining health. She had just turned 90. Janette was born December 26, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts, the only child of Charles Leslie and Mary Joan (Lindsay) Aptt. She graduated from Girls High School in Boston with the Class of 1938. Janette won a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music where she studied voice, eventually singing professionally for many years. Janette also worked as a self employed hairdresser for many years until her retirement in 1960. She was an active member of the Parent Teachers Association at the Joyce Kilmer School in West Roxbury when her children were growing up. She also was an early supporter and fundraiser for the Parkway Concert Orchestra, and a life member of the Women’s Auxilliary of the Scottish Charitable Society. Janette was an active member of the West Roxbury Congregational Church, having served as a deaconess and singing in the choir. She was the wife of the late Albert Nelson O’Brien, and the mother of Jean Augusta, and her husband John, of Walpole. She was also the doting and loving grandmother of Ryan and Lindsay Augusta, both of Walpole. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, January 9th from 2 to 5 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood. Private burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Innocent’s Academy, PO Box 1517, Kodiak, Alaska, 99615 would be appreciated. The Academy supports underpriviledged youths in Kodiak, Alaska and was founded and is run by a former neighbor of Janette’s.
