McNulty, Catherine
Catherine M. (Rena Granfield) McNulty a resident of E. Walpole and formerly of Hyde Park died on November 20 with her family by her side. She was 90. Born in Chicopee to the late William T. and Sophie (Leonard) Granfield. She was the loving granddaughter of the late John E. and Johanna (Smeddy) Granfield with whom she lived with growing up. After graduating from Holy Name High School in Chicopee, Class of 1938, she then went on to attend Mercy Hospital Nursing School and became a registered nurse in 1941. During World War II, she served in the U.S. Public Health Service taking care of the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines and one tour of duty at the U.S. Penitentary for Women in Alderson, West Virginia. She also worked for the former Roslindale General Hospital, Boston State Hospital and the Beth Israel Hospital. Mrs. McNulty established the first Senior Psychiatric Day Care outside an institution in 1970. This became a “pilot program” for the Council on Aging meal sites throughout the state of Massachusetts. She was a member of the American Nursing Association, the U. S. Public Service Corp. and the Hyde Park Seniors. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent N. McNulty and the loving mother of Michael N. of Norwood and his late wife Anne, Patrick W. and his wife Barbara of Milton, Eileen Connolly and her husband James of Norwood, Jo-Ann S. Jung of E.Walpole and the late Robert V.McNulty. Sister of Claire “Patsy” O’Connor and her late husband Justin and the late John “Butch” Granfield. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Robert, Edward, Julie, Nancy and Patrick McNulty, Jr., Jennifer and Brendan Connolly, Katie Jung and her great grandchild Alexis McNulty. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 8 AM from the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 175 Washington St., Walpole. Interment in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Visiting hours on Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 4 to 8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. McNulty ‘s memory may be made to the Walpole VNA, 55 West St., Walpole, MA 02081.

She was a very lovely lady. I only met your mother briefly on a few occasion but whenever we met she always had something nice to say. I am sorry for your loss.
