Mollek, Veronica A. (McGuire)
Veronica Anne (McGuire) Mollek, of Sunset, Maine and Westwood, Massachusetts, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at her home in Westwood. She was 95.
Ronnie was born April 1, 1915 in Stonington, Maine, one of the five children of Frank and Annie Elizabeth (Becot) McGuire and the sister of the late Francis, Thomas, and Robert McGuire. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Tynan of Dedham; her older sister, Mary Agnes McGuire of Oceanville, Maine; two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She received her B.S. from Simmons College in 1936 and M.S. from Columbia University in 1938. She married Joseph William Mollek in 1941, and they lived in New Jersey and Massachusetts and cherished the time they could spend together on Deer Isle until Joe died in 2001. She continued to divide her time between Massachusetts and Deer Isle until she passed away, taking great delight in spending time with her family and friends. Ronnie was an avid sportswoman who played basketball at Stonington High School, loved skiing and golfing with Joe and their friends, and cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots. She loved to squire or be squired in her 1965 Mustang and said she might have raced it but that would have hurt the car.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass Wednesday, October 20th at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church in Stonington, Maine. In lieu of flowers donations to Opera House Arts, PO Box 56, Stonington, Maine, 04681 would be appreciated.
