Stone, William M.
William Murray Stone, of Braintree for the past two years, and formerly of Westwood for 35 years, died Saturday, October 2nd, 2010 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness. He was 78. Bill was born July 27, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts one of the three children of Carl P. and Helen (Murray) Stone. He grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated with the Class of 1950 from Jamaica Plain High School where he lettered in baseball in his sophmore and junior years (1948 and 1949). Bill served in the US Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic in the 3598th Flight Line Maintenance Squad. After his tour of duty in the airforce Bill worked as an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance Company in their Milton and Braintree offices for 31 years until his retirement in 1996. He then worked part time for several years at Roche Brothers in Islington. Bill also bowled with the St. Denis bowling league for many years. He was the husband of the late Linda Carol (Nickerson) Phinney Stone and the former husband of Barbara (Amabile) Stone of Braintree. He is survived by his son, William M. Stone, Jr., and his wife Joanna, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his three daughters, Laura Stone of Braintree, Paula Stone Bond, and her husband James, of Fairhaven, and Ann Marie Gordon of Braintree; as well as 12 grandchildren and his great grandson, Cole William Gordon. He was the stepfather of Carol M. Phinney, John M. Phinney, and Kevin V. Phinney. Bill was the brother of the late Rose Clara Farrell and the twin brother of the late Thomas Edward Stone. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, (Route 109) Westwood. Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9 AM Wednesday, October 6th and proceed to St. Denis Church, 157 Washington Street (Route 1A), Islington for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o clock. Burial will follow in New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood. In lieu of flowers donations to the Bennett Clayton Foundation for Osteogenesis Imperfecta, 40596 River Bluff Lane, St. Peter, MN 45082 would be appreciated.

We are deeply sorry to hear of his passing. He was a warm and fun person to know.
Whenever we saw him he was always welcoming, optimistic, and greeted you with a pleasant smile. We will always remember him for that, and of course, his large collection of baseball stuff! He had a lot of fun qualities, and youthful charm! He was a great “Dad & Grand Dad” to you, and friend to all.
