Perkins, Robert E.
Robert Edward Perkins, a lifelong resident of Norwood, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Harrington House in Walpole. He was 81. Robert was born October 31, 1928 in Norwood, Massachusetts, the only child of Louis and Mabel (Kent) Perkins. He graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1947, served for four years in the US Army as a corporal, and then earned his bachelor degree with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry from Boston University in 1955. Robert worked for 14 years as a microbiologist at Children’s Hospital in Boston and then for 24 years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston until his retirement in 1994. Robert was a member and longtime deacon at the United Church in Norwood, and was a member, since 1978, and Past Master (1986-1987) of Orient Lodge AF & AM of Norwood. He was also a member of the Knights Templar, the Scottish Rite, and the Grand Council and Chapter of Masons. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 19th from 5 to 8 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood. Robert’s funeral will be held Thursday at 10 AM at the Funeral Home followed by burial in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
