Elliott, James J.

James Joseph “Jim” Elliott, a resident of Norwood for 45 years, and formerly of West Roxbry, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a brief illness.  He was 83.  Jim was born February 19, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of Alexander J. and Florence J. (Kearney) Elliott.  After High School he served two tours of duty in the US Army during World War Two and the Korean War.  He worked for several years as a substance abuse counsellor at the Billings Mental Health Center.  Jim loved golfing, reading, football, and was a history buff.  He particularly enjoyed civil war history.  He is survived by his wife Mary Josephine “Mary Jo” (Cullen); five daughters, Virginia “Ginger” Elliott of Holyoke, Susan Elliott of Delaware, Donna Croak of Walpole, Maureen McNamara of Sandwich, and Sharon Bellao of East Sandwich; two sons, James J. Elliott Jr. of Norton, and Bernie Elliott of Franklin; his brother, Joseph Elliott of Raynham; and 20 grandchildren, Alyssa Guerin, Jason Balara, Nicholas Balara, Shannon Goin, Brendan Croak, Colin Croak, Chu Chu Belekewicz, Christian Belekewicz, Sean McNamara, Katie McNamara, Damien Bellao, Shaun Bellao, Cameron Bellao, Breanne Bellao, Megan Elliott, Haley Elliott, Tyler Elliott, Kyle Elliott, Ryan Elliott, and Shane Elliott.  Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 3rd from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home Tuesday at 8 AM and proceed to St. Catherine of Siena Church,  Washington Street, Norwood for his Mass of Christian Burial at 9 o clock.  Burial with military honors will be at the National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45 PM.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, One Intreid Square, West 46th and 12th Avenue, New York, New York, 10036 ( or online at www.fallenheroesfund.org), or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern MA, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 would be appreciated.
