Manson, Joan
Joan Frances Manson, a resident of Roslindale since 1963, and formerly of Dorchester, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at her home in Roslindale. She was 70. Joan was born Aug 27, 1939, one of the three daughters of John Robert and Frances (O’Rourke) Manson. Joan worked in the Policy Services Dept of New England Life Insurance Company in Boston for 26 years until her retirement in 1988. She was an avid reader and gardener who enjoyed history and was a Proud Bostonian. She also enjoyed puzzles and was a member of the Audubon Society. Joan is survived by her sisters, Joyce Swensen of Candler, North Carolina, and Mary E. Root of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her nieces and nephews, Eric, Steven and Sonja Swenson, and Betsy, Lonnie, Michael, Tina and Holly Root. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Mephis, Tennessee, 38105.
Joan, a beloved friend, did not answer the phone as I called over and over again last year. Ernest Rousseau, my brother and a friend, found her obituary today to our utter shock and great sadness. I drove Joyce to Conn. ago, was the one the police notified when Uncle Bob living near the fish pier died after I moved my family to Watertown; Joan eventually went to care for Peg O’Rourke who worked at First National when my brother did. Aunt Peg died at 77
in March ’76 after she retired from the bank. I last saw Joan in at the Aegean in Watertown where she kindly marked my Cousin Claire Lee’s 76th birthday in 2005; Claire died at 77 in May 2007. I always reached Joan on her birthday and at Christmas–have been near frantic about her whereabouts for months; searched Intellius yesterday to no avail, alas. News of her passing has me utterly saddened
because she was a good woman I admired whose friendship enriched my family over time. She kept me up to date on her dear relatives; I assumed she had moved after she described painting and refinishing her home; I miss Joan… I will relay this sad news to others; thanks for the chance to write a few words here…
