McLaughlin, Judith Ann

Judith “Judy” A. (Mutlow) McLaughlin of Sharon, MA, formerly of Norwood and Hyde Park, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at the age of 77.

Born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain, Judy graduated from Jamaica Plain High School with honors in 1964, Boston Business School with honors as a certified Bookkeeper in 1965, and Magna Cum Laude with an associate degree in Accounting from Newbury College in 1993.

Judy was known for her attention to detail and running a tight ship and worked as an Accountant for over 40 years with such notable companies as Weston Kitchens in Wellesley and Judith Ross & Co. on Newbury St. in Boston.

Judy loved Cape Cod and traveled to Dennis, MA every summer from the time she was a teenager to visit her sister Carol and brother-in-law John. This was a joy she would share with family and friends, and she became a yearly renter there until the late 80’s.

Judy married and settled in Hyde Park, where she raised her family. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Judy loved gardening and woodworking and would spend endless hours mastering the craft of each. After her divorce, Judy moved to Norwood where she developed a love of the theater, travel, and yoga.

Judy was predeceased by her former husband Henry T. (Tom) McLaughlin Jr. of Bridgewater, her parents Evelyn G. (Penney) and Everett M. Mutlow of Jamaica Plain, sisters Dorothy L. Salisbury of Mansfield and Carol R. Shields of Westwood, and her brother Donald Matheson of Cambridge.

Judy is survived by her daughter Michelle of Medfield, son Brian, daughter-in-law Larissa, and grandchildren Sean and Sydney McLaughlin of Sandown, NH. She is also survived by her sister Joyce and brother-in-law Tony Cavossa of Foxboro, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, both in the US and Nova Scotia, Canada.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St, Westwood, from 4-7pm. Homecoming service will be celebrated at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 11AM. Interment will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

Alhough I did not know Ms. McLaughlin well, as the adoptive father of her grandaughter Brittany Elizabeth (Kachel) Thompson, I had the privilege of interacting with her at some of the celebrations of Brittany’s milestone events attended by Judy and Michelle. I was impressed by Judy’s demonstration of concern for Brittany’s welfare and her ongoing support throughout the years. I know that Brittany always considered her a special person in her life. Having had these brief but impactful experiences with Judy, I can well imagine how much her presence in the lives of her friends and loved ones will be missed. May she rest in peace in God’s company.

I had the privilege of knowing Judy, for about 20 years, but being a small world, she knew my late husband Patrick from Jamaica Plain, we used to talk on the phone several times a week, and we would meet about twice a week, sending sympathy to Judy’s daughter Michelle, and her son Brian as well as her grand children who she loved dearly.
