Moy, Jeffrey

Jeffrey Moy, age 69, of Milton, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Born on April 22, 1954 in Fall River, Massachusetts, Jeffrey was the son of Frank Q. Moy, Sr. and Flora Moy. He is survived by his mother Flora Moy of Dedham, MA, his brothers Frank Moy, Jr. of Walpole, MA and Stephen J. Moy, D.M.D., and his wife Caron Uejo-Moy of Auburn, CA, and his Aunt Betty Moy of Somerville, MA.

He was the beloved Uncle to Meaghan E. Moy of Dedham, MA, Benjamin F. Moy and his wife Christine M. Moy of Canton, MA, Frank R. Moy and his wife Dr. Theresa Lorkowski of San Antonio, TX, and Prezleigh Colburn and her husband Joshua Colburn of Livermore, CA as well as the Great Uncle to Henry Moy, Noah Moy, Anna Moy, Lucas Moy, Madeline Moy, Jack Colburn and Henry Colburn. He was preceded in death by his wife Jamie Lee Wong, D.M.D. of Milton, MA, his father Frank Moy, Sr. of Fall River, MA, his Uncle Benjamin Q. Moy, D.M.D. of Somerville, MA, and his sister-in-law Jane E. Moy of Walpole, MA.

As a young man, Jeffrey had a passion for mechanics and speed. He loved modifying cars, scuba diving, and dirt bike racing; always striving to make everything go faster. He used his scuba diving skills to commercially harvest shellfish. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic, and in 1977, he received a BA Cum Laude from UMass Boston. In 1979, he earned a B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art. Jeffrey’s creativity and talent as an artist were evident in his unique sculptures, art pieces, furniture, and kinetic artworks. His works were displayed in galleries throughout the Boston area.

Jeffrey dedicated 31 years of his career to teaching art at Latin Academy in Boston, MA from February 1984 to June 2015. Jeff was recognized as an exceptional teacher with many of his students going on to receive awards for their contribution to the arts. Additionally, he served as a volunteer tutor at the UMass Institute of Learning and Teaching, introducing inner-city middle school students to the arts. In 1987-1988, Jeffrey’s artwork for the Dragon Boat Festival on the Charles River in Boston was highly regarded. As a recipient of the Art Lottery Grant his sculpture is permanently on display in the Milton Town Hall. Jeffrey also utilized mechanical skills to help people create better living spaces through his home renovation company Creative Repairs.

Outside of his professional life, Jeffrey amassed a great collection of tools and equipment that were a source of pride to him. He was oftentimes found in his yard working or tinkering with things to make them better and more useful. As he grew older, Jeffrey traded his dirt bike days for his new found love of jet skiing, making it a personal goal to always have the fastest boat on Sawdy Pond, where he enjoyed time at his lake house with family and friends.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Jeffrey Moy, a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I do know that Jeffrey had some really good times. He had a sense of humor that shown through especially with some of his caretakers. Frank made sure that Jeffrey got to experience as much as he could. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family at this sorrowful time.

My condolences to Jeff’s family. I taught with Jeff at Boston Latin Academy from 2007 to his retirement. He was always kind and helpful and fun to talk to. I was always asking to borrow things or for his help in hanging things on the wall in my classroom. He was a great teacher who left a positive mark on BLA with art installations created by his students.

Mr. Moy was a mentor who not only imparted artistic skills but also instilled in us the drive to excel professionally as a creative and think outside of the box when it came to everyday life and the arts. I am grateful for the years spent in his class, where he dedicated time and effort to enter my work into shows and city programs. Mr. Moy’s influence has left a lasting impact on me and many many others who were fortunate enough to have been under his wing at Boston Latin Academy. Cheers to Mr. Moy!

Mr. Moy was my art teacher and inspiration to teach and continue pursuing my art career while I attended Boston Latin Academy. Funny, I tried to email him last year around September. This is a tragic loss but Mr. Moy will never be forgotten, my condolences to the family.

This is such sad news to hear at the start of the new year.
My condolences to Mr. Moy’s family, sending love and healing at this time.
I had the pleasure and opportunity to have Mr. Moy as my Art teacher during my years at Boston Latin Academy (class of 2002). Our art class started the tiles project along the walls of the 2nd floor crossover/bridge.
I always looked forward to his class. He always had a way to help you tap into your creativity and he had light energy that made you want to be there.
    May he rest in peace.

I’m so sad to hear of Jeff’s passing. I taught with Jeff for several years at Bla. He was the kindest soul. Mr. Moy was so appreciated and loved by his students and colleagues. He saved me and my husband Ned, several times with that ladder and tool box. In the early morning his student’s artwork on display made my day. He will not be forgotten. My sincerest sympathies to Jeff’s family and friends.

Im sure Mr Moy would have not believe he was one of if not the most influential teachers I ever had. So many quotes replay over and over in my head since I graduated 20 years ago from BLA. Daily I hear his voice saying this to me like “ Sherwyn stay under the radar” and telling me all about his side business and how important things like personality and being in time was.

Thank you Mr Moy and condolences to the your family.

I am so saddened to hear about Mr. Moy’s passing. As a young student, it was wonderful to have a teacher that was available to chat about struggles with classes and other issues pre-teens/teens went through. I have fond memories helping him pack up his classroom from the old Ipswich Street/Fenway location when our school was preparing to move to its current home in Dorchester. Mr. Moy took us out for pizza on the last day of school. He was a great mentor and always supported his students he possibly could. May you find peace and comfort wherever you are now, Mr. Moy.

Jefferey was only about 2 1/2 yrs old when we first met. I married his Uncle Herman . He was a bundle of boundless energy zooming around… At my wedding, he had one of his zoomies and plough right into my light-blue Chinese hand- embroidered satin dress with outstretched pastry coated palms. I still have that dress with his palm prints stamped onto the front panel of the dress thus creating a lasting souvenir! His first piece of Art!

Through the years, he always have this same boundless energy topped by a beautiful smile, charming ways. Yeah, he was super handsome.

The years quickly went by. The last time I saw Jeffery was at his then new house. He showed us his impressive workshop. He showed and talk about his coming projects. He showed us the huge stones that he planned to use to create a border in front of his house.. He had not figured out how to do this Stonehenge as yet, but he was onto it . He was full of energy and enthusiastic about many coming projects.

The years continued on so swiftly. It is difficult to realize that Jeffery’s life has come to a conclusion. He was a cyclone. He was energy. He had enthusiasm for doing and creating. His teachings reached many individual to share his enthusiasm and the love of adventure. Although he is physically gone, his student progenies and legacies will continue to live on for generations to come.

    RIP Jefferey , Love-Aunt Evie

Truly a great loss. Often as a child I did not grasp that my teachers were “real people”, that they had family outside of us students. I’d like to thank Mr.Moy’s family for sharing him with us. In his classes I grew so much and learned so many techniques that I still use today. I’m grateful that he brought the balance to my academic life. Funny my life still has the same balance of creativity and rigidity. Thank you, Mr. Moy, for helping us make a stamp on this world.

For anyone who ever wants to be inspired, take a walk through the Latin Academy crossover. Our work lives there with the help and inspiration of you ❤️

I too was a teacher at BLA, the whole time that Jeff was there. He was a kind person and wonderful teacher. He left several beautiful and stunning artworks at our school. The hall of student work there (starting sometime around the year 2000, I think!) is a stellar gift to our school, with so many students representing themselves there. Thank you, Jeff, for all you did for us. You will always live on at Boston Latin Academy.

Uncle Jeff, I still can’t believe you’re gone. Your love for the arts has always been an inspiration to me. So much so that I’m proud to tell people that I’m an artist just like you and because of you. I love you and miss you dearly. I’ve always loved your soft and sweet nature, your vision, and of course your taste in good food. Love you Uncle Jeff
