Moses, Elliott
Elliott P. Moses of Milton, Massachusetts (formerly of Westwood) was born on May 1, 1934 in Winchester, MA. He died on December 19, 2023 after a brief illness at the age of eighty-nine. Elliott was the beloved husband of Ruth I. Moses (Chapman). They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage together on December 29, 2023. Elliott was the dear father of Robert E. Moses, and his wife Shelly, of Lebanon, NH; Karen E. Libera, and her husband Matthew, of New Providence, NJ; and Stephen P. Moses, and his wife Catherine, of Narragansett RI. Elliott was the brother of Cynthia W. Harlow, and her husband Richard, of Middlebury, VT. Elliott was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Marion (Marble) Moses. He was the proud grandfather of John R. Moses, Brian E. Moses, Elizabeth A. Cardillo, Christopher J. Libera, Robert M. Libera, Mary K. McAnally, Kyle A. Moses, Matthew S. Moses, and Allison C. Moses and the very loving great grandfather of Isabelle and Leonardo Cardillo, Liam and Willa Moses and Samuel Libera and was looking forward to the birth of two more great grandchildren in 2024.
Elliott’s career was in the travel industry. He spent much of his life helping other people create wonderful memories as a travel agent. He worked initially for Northeast Airlines and then for Columbus Travel in Uphams Corner. After numerous mergers, acquisitions, and moves in the Greater Boston area, he was proud to retire as a long-time travel consultant for American Express Travel Services. In retirement, he and his wife Ruth traveled extensively to Europe and throughout the United States. They sailed on several cruises. A Panama Canal cruise beginning in Florida and ending in San Diego was a highlight.
Elliott was passionate about caretaking for his long-time home in Westwood. He found great joy in gardening, chopping wood for their wood stove, and the simple pleasures of raking leaves and mowing his lawn. His children remember endless snow shoveling of their long stone driveway and the many paths to front and back stairways and sheds. His grandchildren remember many visits to Westwood to help Grandpa in his yard and playing and sledding on “Moses Mountain.” Elliott continued his passion for gardening at Fuller Village in Milton where he and Ruth moved in 2016. Elliott walked as often as possible, and he loved meeting people and enjoyed watching all types of traffic and construction on his daily journeys.
Elliott was a proud member of the First Congregational Church of Norwood. He sang in their choir as well as for the Fuller Village chorus. Throughout his life he was attentive to his children in many ways. He served as a little league coach, including coaching a Senior League all-star team, and he was also a cubmaster assisting with pine wood derby competitions, among many other activities. In retirement he served as President of the Westwood Men’s Club. Elliott was proud of his service in the United States Army. Grandchildren brought great joy to his life. Attending their sporting events, baptisms, piano recitals, high-school and college graduations, and visiting his children’s homes in New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Rhode Island gave great memories. Most recently, the family has wonderful photographs of great grandchildren sitting in Elliott’s lap at Fuller Village.
Elliott was a kind and gentle man. He was a caring husband to Ruth and a loving father to his entire family. He will be missed.
Services and interment in New Westwood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the First Congregational Church of Norwood, 100 Winter Street, Norwood, MA 02062.
Elliott is the father-in-law of my sister Shelly. I can’t count how many times over the last 30+ years we’ve been blessed to be in the company of Elliott and Ruth. They’re such kind, warm, engaging, welcoming and interesting people. No matter where we were or what milestone we were celebrating, Elliott was a cheerful, engaging and positive presence. He always made me and my family feel accepted and welcomed. I will very much miss being with Elliott at these family gatherings. May he rest in peace. Love, The Mike Dulworth Family
Dear Ruth, Bob, Shelly, Karen, Matt, Steve and Cathy
Our sincere condolences on the loss of Elliott. He was a perfect gentleman and someone we always enjoyed being in his company. We feel blessed to have had the honor of knowing him and being members of his extended family.
With our love,
Valerie & Bob Perry
Elliott was a lovely man, and Dad to my dear friend Karen Libera. We had a number of chats over the years about Travel, both of us having worked in different areas for American Express Travel. My thoughts are with his wife Ruth, his daughter Karen and her family at his passing.

Am so sorry to hear of your husband/Dad’s passing. Know your Ruth has been in touch with my parents (Dot & George Stephenson) – my Dad was deeply saddened to hear about losing his tennis partner of 20 years (maybe more?). Know it’s been decades since any of us saw each other, but my Mom & Dad have kept me updated on the Moses family doings. Know you all have wonderful family memories to sustain you through this difficult time & just wanted you to know you’re in our thoughts & prayers. Love, Barbara Pignatelli & family
