Spindler, Nancy
Nancy Beebe Spindler, formerly of Dedham, MA and recently of Westwood, MA, died on Wednesday, December 21, the winter solstice. She was 97 years old. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves her two sons, Peter and Christopher; her three granddaughters, Chelsea, Kyla and Wesley; and her great-grandson, Samuel. “Noni” was born on Beacon St., in Boston, on October 14, 1925, in her parents’ apartment. Her father died in an airplane crash which she witnessed Memorial Day, 1934. She graduated from Milton Academy, attended Connecticut College for Women, and married Richard on May 18, 1946. They vacationed in St. Croix in the spring of 1950 for the first time, just before RAS graduated from Wharton and they moved back to Boston for his first job in the financial community. She attended Wellesley College after Chris was born in 1951, and as she told the story, “Then those boys grew up to be troublesome.” Her favorite job was at Modern Gourmet under the tutelage of French chef Madeleine Kamman in the late ’70s. She brought her insight and expertise to the family table at weekly Sunday dinners. She and RAS bought an apartment in St. Croix, but it was destroyed soon after completion but before occupancy by Hurricane Hugo. They eventually bought another home there and spent happy winters together. Later in life she made many new friends in Westwood, and had recently begun a French grammar class. She died peacefully surrounded by those who loved her. No services will be held.
