Benoit, Edna M.
Edna May (Thompson) Benoit, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at her home. She was 85. Edna was born May 2, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts, the last surviving of the three children of Alexander W. and Annie May (Tibbetts) Thompson. Enda was predeceased by a brother, Alexander Benoit Jr., and a sister, Barbara Senigo. She grew up in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School with the Class of 1955. After a short career in banking Edna married the love of her life, Bob, in 1961. Together they raised their two sons in Dedham, where Edna perfected the art of homemaking. Dinner was at 6 every night and Sundays were for formal dinners. Edna always had a steady supply of brownies, peanut butter fudge bars, and a variety of homemade baked goods. She was also renowned for her hand knitted hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters and her cherished crocheted Christmas ornaments that she would include each year with her holiday cards. She was gifted in crafting, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Edna was a popular, hardworking and involved member of the Allin Church in Dedham. She ran the annual Snowflake Fair for 10 years in a row, was a longtime member of the choir, a member of several search committees, and a Sunday School teacher. Edna was also involved in the community as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Town election poll worker, and a multi year Public school room mother. Edna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Eugene “Bob” Benoit; and her two sons, Paul E. Benoit, and his wife Debbie, of Millis, and Steven E. Benoit, and his wife Jill, of Walpole. She was the loving and proud grandmother “Mamoo” of Alex, and his partner Raphael, Robert, and his partner Phil, Cameron, and his partner Chloe, Christiana, and her partner Jeff, and Mamoo’s youngest grandchild, Jonathan. In Edna’s eyes these are the smartest, kindest, and most beautiful people in the world. When given the chance, she would tell you so in detail. Visiting hours will be held Friday, October 7th from 4-8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday at 11 am at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., Dedham. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 160 Wells Ave, Newton, MA 02459 or to the LANK Cancer Center, BIDMC, 148 Chestnut St, Needham, 02492 would be appreciated.
Oh, Bob and family…my heart goes out to you. Edna was such a special, loving person, who wanted nothing more than to make those around her happy. She was a wonderful friend with whom I served on many committees and with whom I sang in the Allin choir. She will be missed by all who knew her. May God’s love surround all of you and bring you peace.
So sorry to learn of Edna’s passing. Our friendship spans many years.
Sending sympathy to Bob and family.

Edna May was my dear cousin. We were the two youngest grandchildren of Annie May Smith Tibbets of Wards Brook, Nova Scotia. I met Edna May in South Bosto when we were both two years old. Barbsra and Edna visited us in Nova Scotia and I visited her in South Boston throughout her childhood. We had great times together. I am so sorry for her loss, and extend my love and sympathy to Bob and to her beloved sons and their families. Cousin Joan in Nova Scotia

Bob, I am sorry to hear the news about Edna. I just came across her obit, a little while ago. I know the last time we talked you told me she wasn’t doing that good. And I hadn’t seen you at the last couple of meetings. I hope that you and the rest of the Benoit family can find comfort in all of your fond and wonderful memories.
In Sincere Friendship
