Levine, Barry
Barry Levine passed peacefully on June 14, 2022 in the presence of his family. He was born in Brooklyn to Edith and Murray Levine. He graduated from James Madison Highschool and went on to earn a B.S. degree in biology from M.I.T. in 1971. He earned a degree from the New England School of Acupuncture and later earned a masters in Herbal Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture. He married in 1973 to Judith Katz Levine and settled in the Boston area. Barry practiced acupuncture for 30 years and would go to any length to help his patients. He was also an accomplished and professional musician playing sax throughout New England. He took special delight in playing at nursing homes during the last few years in a trio called String Swing. Barry leaves his wife Judith Katz Levine, his daughter Jan Alexandra Katz, his mother Edith Levine, and two brothers Jeffrey and Leonard Levine and their spouses Marcie and Mateo, and many nieces and a nephew. He had a unique inventor’s mind and his unique and caring ways will always be missed. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders or Care Dimensions Hospice.
I am sorry to learn of Dr Levine’s passing. He helped me tremendously. I enjoyed our conversations. May he rest easy.
We love the Levine/katz family like our own. Barry was a wonderful person and spirit whose memory will live forever. Love from the spingarn family, Debbie, jerry Hannah and Caroline
When COVID-19 brought a halt to in-person musical performances, Barry stopped into the same internet jam session where my jazz band was practicing. Over the course of a few months, he became a regular with us. With a gentle word here and there, he broadened our horizons and helped us grow as musicians. I never met Barry in person, but after hearing his music and having the chance to improvise together, I felt like I knew his soul. Barry, we’ll miss you.
Barry and I both studied acupuncture at the New England School of Acupuncture, and we worked together at Dimock Community Health Center using acupuncture to help treat addiction. Unbeknownst to both of use, we each played saxophone. I know his generosity and compassion helped many people over the many years he practiced acupuncture. May our memories of Barry provide strength and comfort as we mourn this loss and long into the future
I have known Barry for 30 years. Supremely bright, a wonderful friend and an excellent colleague. A brave soul and an independent spirit that I will miss very much. You’ve left us too soon Barry.
Barry was a wonderful roommate in our fraternity at MIT. Sorry, I just learned about him passing away.
