Waite, Edwin E. “Bud”
Edwin Eugene Waite, know by all as “Bud”, died Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Sophia Snow House in West Roxbury. He was 96. Bud was born October 22, 1925 in Millis, Massachusetts, one of the five children of Eugene Edwin and Flossie (Saltmarsh) Waite. He was inducted into the Army in 1944 and served for two years as a Private First Class in the 60th Infantry Regiment of the 65th Infantry Division, in Company F. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic and meritorious service in the Rhineland and Central Europe. Bud was also awarded the French Legion of Honor Award with the rank of Chevalier. It is the highest honor of merit bestowed by the French Government and dates back to 1802 when it was established by Napoleon Bonaparte. After the end of the war Bud returned to Millis to finish his high school classes and was honored in a special ceremony to grant him his high school diploma. Bud worked as a systems analyst for the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and helped in the transition from paper documents to computerization. He was a member of the Stratford Street Baptist Church (now the Stratford Street United Church) where he married Minetta May Forward in 1955 and has remained active in many positions at the church. Bud volunteered in the Walk for Hunger for Project Bread for 25 years, raising over $25,000. He was a member and Past President of the 65th Infantry Division Association, and a two time Past Commander of the American Legion Post 208 in Millis. Bud was the husband of the late Minette M. (Forward) Waite who predeceased him in 2020, and the brother of the late Kenneth Waite, Carlene Perry, Flossie Johnson, and Myrtle Purrington. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Waite Greenberg of Watertown; his two sons, Arthur W. Waite, and his wife Mary, of Dedham, and Douglas E. Waite, and his wife Anita, of Walpole; two grandchildren, Allison and Alex Greenberg; and many beloved nieces and nephews, and their families. Rest in Peace Uncle Buddy! I loved Uncle Buddy so much, and I know he loved me too because he made a point to tell me every single time I saw him since we met over 11 years ago. When Ryan & I visited him last week I thought I would be sad to see him nearing the end of his amazing life. But in true Uncle Buddy fashion, he was sharing stories and making us laugh the entire time. I left the visit feeling happy and full of love; the same way Uncle Buddy always made me and everyone around him feel. I am so lucky to have known him and be a part of his family.
Rest In Peace, you were a wonderful neighbor. I enjoyed the times we saw each other at the Walk for Hunger
The Faust family is so very saddened by the passing of our dear Bud. There are no words that adequately describes our loss. Doug’s and Buds relationship was so special with their years of playing tennis followed by their weekly phone calls. He will be missed by Doug and I and our adult children. Hugs and condolences to his family and all who loved him.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Edwin Waite. We have fond memories and great times with him from the last several years at the 65th reunions. Our condolences and prayers.
So sorry to hear about Bud’s passing. I will always have fond memories of our years together at the Legion in Millis and our great battles on the tennis courts in every town between West Roxbury and Medway, if there were courts open anywhere we found them. When we moved to Florida I kind of lost touch with many friends but was very fortunate to hook up with Bud at Thursday morning coffee at the Legion in Millis two years ago and we spent about two hours talking about old times. I will miss Bud very much and want to express my sincere condolences to his family.
We are so sad to hear about Ed’s passing. Ed was so loved by everyone when he came to 65th Reunions. He will be greatly missed!
