Amos, Marion

Marion Joyce (Nicholson) Amos, age 83 of Dedham, Massachusetts and River Ranch, Florida, passed away after a battle with cancer on October 22, 2021. Marion was a graduate of Dedham High School’s Class of 1955. The daughter of the late Lester and Margaret (MacDonald) Nicholson. Marion is survived by her high school sweetheart of 63 years Steve Amos, her daughters Laurie Cushing and dear son-in-law Jeff of Stoughton, and Holly Hamilton and her husband Joe of Dedham. She will be missed dearly by her grandchildren; Chuck, Lynnette, Jourdan, Adam, Stephen, Maya and Jason, as well as great-grandchildren Josh and Irie. Marion grew up celebrating her Scottish heritage, playing bagpipes and performing Scottish step-dancing. Later, she did secretarial work, led Girl Scouts and coordinated deliverers for the Dedham Transcript paper routes. Marion and Steve traveled around the world with their many friends, including the Woodlawn Street Gang, the Kenyons and the Flaggs. Marion loved taking annual family trips to Newport, RI and Cold Spring Resort in Ashland, NH, both of which led to great traditions. Marion and Steve left Dedham every winter to snowbird in River Ranch, Florida, where Marion was known by everyone for her friendliness, kindness, and her skill at the card game “Hand and Foot”. She will be most remembered for her smile that always lit up the room, her nightly glass of Beringer White Zinfandel with ice, and for giving umpires and referees a run for their money as she cheered on her grandkids in sports. Marion’s family would like to express tremendous gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, as the many visits, cards, calls and messages from friends and family brought her great joy in her final days. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date, and donations in Marion’s memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

My sincere condolences to the entire Amos family on the passing of this special lady.
We shared a Scottish ancestry. I can remember her doing the Sword Dance like she had been doing it all her life. I also remember her singing with the Junior Choir in the balcony at Allin Congregational Church in Dedham…looking like an angel.
Rest in peace, Marion. Your earthly suffering is over, and because of your strong faith, I’m convinced you’re now in Heaven with your loved ones who went before you.
    In Christ’s love,
    Bev

I only had the privilege of knowing Marion for seven years but wow, what an impression she made on me. Always smiling, always ready for adventure. It’s not the day you were born or the day you pass that matters. It’s the dash in between. And Marion lived her “dash” to the fullest. She’s a beautiful soul that I will surely miss. RIP dear friend.

We can never fully express how much Marion meant to us. She was outgoing and delightful from the moment we met her 14 years ago. She knew and loved everyone at River Ranch and everyone loved her. She was the “life of the party” and we loved watching her dance. She frequently volunteered her time and talents to help others, expecting nothing in return. We love all of you dearly and will continue to keep you in our hearts and prayers. May the LORD fill your hearts with precious memories and the assurance of seeing her again in Heaven. Love, Mel & Faith
