Collins, Barbara
Barbara M. Collins of Natick and Norwood passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5th, with her daughter by her side. She is survived by her daughter Maura Collins Feldman, son-in-law Tom, and two grandsons Charlie and Danny, all of Wayland, MA. Her two grandsons were the apples of her eye and brought her the most joy in retirement. Barbara was a life-long educator. She taught third grade for over 40 years, primarily at the CJ Prescott School in Norwood. She loved teaching third grade because it is such a pivotal year in early education where kids begin doing more complicated math, topics from their previous grade start to coalesce, and she loved the energy of third graders. Being a first generation Irish American, Barbara had a special connection with Ireland. She loved traveling to Ireland with her extended family to enjoy the countryside where her mother grew up and visiting her family who still lives there. Although Barbara was an only child, she had over 30 first cousins, residing both in eastern US and in Ireland. Throughout her life, Barbara made connections and friends who doubled as close family. She had a special knack for making all holidays special for everyone around her, always preparing and celebrating with decorations, special napkins, and some type of gift to coordinate. A seemingly endless supply of candy was always around to share with visitors, which brought great joy particularly to her grandsons. Barbara is predeceased by her husband John Charles Day. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 9th at May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street in Norwood from 3 to 7 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday, Sep 10th starting at 9:30 am at the funeral home and process to St. Timothy’s Church, 650 Nichols St, Norwood for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Barbara’s name to Globe Santa, PO Box 491, Medford, MA 02155-0005

My thoughts and prayers to Barbara’s family. I met Barbara in the later part of life. She was a genuine woman. Her smile and laugh were a welcome. I actually enjoyed giving her her yearly flu shots she roll up her sleeve and say let’s get this nonsense over.
Always very welcoming to staff and new residents. And her sweater collection!
Remembering a special lady.
