Friedl, Donald G.
Donald George Friedl, a resident of Westwood since 1972, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 2, 2021 at his home at Fox Hill Village in Westwood. He was 88. Don was born December 7, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of George Michael and Alma Elizabeth (Schwann) Friedl. Don grew up in Cleveland, graduated from Tulane University, and served in the US Army. He received his MBA from Columbia University in 1958 and moved through various companies before joining Howard Johnson’s in 1970. In the mid 1980’s he led a management buy out of the division he directed, becoming President and CEO of the new company. He retired in 1997. During Don’s forty plus years living in Westwood he was active in civic, community, and church affairs. He was a Trustee of Norwood Hospital and a longtime Trustee of the Westwood Library. Don and his wife have traveled extensively to all seven continents and circumnavigated the world four times and explored many wonders of the world. Don is the husband of Judith (Prenda) Friedl and of the late Genevieve R. (Weaver) Friedl. He is survied by his two sons, David D. Friedl of Mansfield and Lawrence A. Friedl, and his wife Jenny, of Arlington, Virginia; his daughters, Cathleen A. Ellis, and her husband Michael, of Westwood, and Sandra L. Jamieson, and her husband Mark, of Adams, New York; his brother, Allan Friedl, and his wife Anita, of Temple, Georgia; his nine grandchildren, Erin, Lauren, John, Laura, Karen, Heather, Porter, Lindy, and Tyler; and his two great grandchildren, Aliza and Cole. He is also survived by Judith’s daughter Anne Beaudoin, and her husband Robert, and their children, Abrielle and Emme. Visiting hours will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood. Don’s family has requested that masks be worn at the visiting hours. Private interment with Military Honors will be at the New Westwood Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2 pm at the First Parish of Westwood United Church, 252 Nahatan Street, Westwood. Don’s family has requested that masks be worn at the Memorial Service also
He is now resting in peace
