Nado, Marjorie A.

Marjorie Anne (Ross) Nado, a resident of Walpole, passed away peacefully at her home in Walpole on Saturday, April 20, 2019.  She had just recently celebrated her 80th birthday.  Marjorie was born March 7, 1939 in Norwood, Massachusetts, a daughter of David Angus and Jeannette A. (Fillmore) Ross.  She grew up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School.  Marjorie worked as a secretary for several different companies, primarily in the legal field.  She was the consummate homemaker and hostess.  She loved and cherished the time she spent with her family over the many years.  Marjorie loved attending all her grandchildren’s games and events.  She was a very supportive fan.  Marjorie loved to knit; quilts, mittens, sweaters for her children and grandchildren, and who could forget her famous Christmas stockings.   She is survived by her husband, Francis Kenneth “Frank” Nado, with who she just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary; her two sons, Kenneth “Ken” Nado, and his wife Barbara, of Attleboro, and David Nado of Walpole; her daughter, Marge Ducharme, and her husband George, of Norfolk; her brother, Dave Ross of Norwood; her sister, Faye Dalton, of Norwood; her four grandchildren, Zachary Nado, Nicole Down, and her husband Peter, George Ducharme, and Jake Ducharme; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 24th from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom and May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Thursday,, April 25 at 10 am at the funeral home followed by interment in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451 would be appreciated.  

Keller, Joan W. (Dixson)

Joan Dixon Keller died peacefully, April 18, 2019 at her home in Westwood, MA. Joan was born on September 11, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois, daughter of Noah and Louisa Dixon and sister of Noah M. Dixon. Joan attended Ferry Hall Academy and graduated from Pembroke College (Brown University) with a degree in English Literature in 1949. After college, Joan joined the Junior Executive training program of Filene’s department store in Boston and in 1952 she married Oliver Keller Jr. in Springfield, Illinois where they lived until their move to Tallahassee, Florida in 1967, followed by a move to Gainesville in 1975. Throughout her life Joan was a wonderful athlete and excelled in swimming, tennis and golf. On her 90th birthday she eagled a par 4 hole. She was also very active in her communities, participating in the Junior League, Garden Clubs, Beyond War and the Colonial Dames. Prior to moving to New England in 2017 to be closer to her daughters, Joan and Ollie lived in Atlanta, GA for nearly 40 years. Ollie predeceased Joan in 2008. Joan embraced life and loved people. She made lasting friendships with people of all ages and those from all walks of life. She was adored by her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Her newest friends from the Foxhill community brought her great joy and happiness and her long time Michigan friends gave her continual love and enjoyment. In the last 20 years she thoroughly enjoyed playing Bridge. She loved good books, the New York Times and the PBS News Hour. Beautiful music, independent movies, birds at her feeder and Michigan summers were important in her life. Joan is survived by her two daughters, Alison Keller Townsend (Charles) of Barrington, RI and Louisa Keller Paige Miller (Robert) of Dedham, MA. Her grandchildren are Charles, Claire and Peter Townsend, Sarah, Sam and Georgia Paige. The family is grateful to her marvelous caregivers and the dedicated nurses from VNA Hospice. Joan will be deeply missed by everyone she touched. A reception at Foxhill will be held for her friends later this spring and a memorial service will be held in Harbor Springs, Michigan in July or August. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Planned Parenthood, the Manna Food Project in Northern Michigan, Little Traverse Conservatory, My Life, My Choice or VNA Hospice Care.

Geary, Dorothy

Dorothy M. Geary (Mancusi), a long time resident of Westwood passed away on April 15, 2019 at the age of 90.  Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Charles and Rose (Savino) Mancusi.  Mrs. Geary was retired from the Norfolk County Probate Court in Dedham where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant.  She was the beloved wife of the late Michael V. Geary and the loving mother of William J. Geary and his wife Kristi of Boston and Michael J. Geary and his wife Patti of Florida.  She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren; Katie, Heather, Michael, Will, Chris and James. 

A private funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill followed by interment in Old Westwood Cemetery, Westwood, MA.  In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Society of St. Vincent De Paul, c/o Director of Development, 2403 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX  77021 or www.svdphouston.org

McCarthy, I. Joan (Slack)

Imelda Joan (Slack) McCarthy, a resident of Dedham for over 50 years, and formerly of Brooklyn, New York, died Tuesday, April 16th at her home in Dedham. She was 80. Joan was born May 15, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Charles J. and Irene Mary (Robinson) Slack and her career started there as a real estate secretary. In the 1960’s she moved to Dedham and was a housekeeper for many years at the rectory at St. Mary’s Church in Dedham. She retired from the Registry of Deeds for Norfolk County after many years of service. Joan was the wife of the late Gerard “Gerry” Michael McCarthy, and the sister of the late Irene M. Cook. She is survived by her son, Andrew C. Bearisto, and his wife Trish, of Dedham, and their children, AndrewJ. Bearisto, and his wife Lindsay, of Plymouth, and Leandra Bearisto of Dedham; and her loving brother, Kevin Slack, and his wife Vanda, of Manhassett, New York. Joan is also survived by a daughter, , and two loving great grandchildren, Natalie Jeanne of Medfield, and Mason of Plymouth, as well as many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to acknowledge the caregivers and friends that donated so much of their time to caring for Joan over the years; Mrs. Roberta Lanoue of Dedham, and Mr. Philip Gallagher Jr. of Needham. Joan’s family also would like to thank Companion Referral Service of Needham, and VNA Care Network Hospice for their amazing caregivers and support. Anthony, Germaine L.

Germaine Lucille (Sands) Anthony, of Dedham, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the Meadow Green Nursing Center in Waltham.  She was 88.  Germaine was born August 19, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Francis B. and Germaine (St Cyr) Sands.  She worked as a clerk at Baybank and at Rustcraft Greeting Cards, both in Dedham.  Germaine was the wife of the late John Henry Anthony and the sister of the late Louise Zantuhos, and is survived by her two sons, Steven Wayne Anthony, and his wife Anne-Marie, of Waltham, and Charles Anthony of Thousand Oaks, California.  She is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Germaine was a Past Chaplain of Dedham American Legion Post 18, a member of the 49er’s Club, and a parishioner of St. Anne’s Church in Readvile.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham. 

Monterisi, Mary

Mary T. (D’Alvisio) Monterisi, of Readville, passed away on April 7, 2019 at the age of 86.   Mary was the devoted wife of Joseph G. Monterisi, and loving mother of Anne M. O’Neil of Readville, and David and his wife Elaine of Dedham.  She was the proud grandmother to Andrea Monterisi, Anthony Monterisi, Matthew O’Neil, Meghan O’Neil, and Kevin O’Neil. Beloved sister of Lorraine O’Mara, and her husband Robert, of S. Yarmouth.   She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. Relatives and Friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday starting at 9AM, before processing to St Anne’s Church, 82 W. Milton St., Hyde Park, MA 02136 for a Funeral Mass at 10AM. Interment to follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In Lieu of flowers, donations to St. Anne’s Church (address above) would be appreciated.

Brace, Richard G.

 Richard G. “Dick,” Brace, of Concord, formerly of Dover, MA died peacefully on March 29, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jane Gordon Brace, son, Richard Jr. “Rick” and wife Marlayne Corson Brace of Dover, daughter, Lindsey Brace Martinez and husband Peter of Dedham, MA, and four grandchildren: Katrina and Nathan Brace, McQuillen and Rhodes Martinez and a brother, Robert D. Brace of Westwood, MA. Dick is predeceased by his sister, Dr. Ann Brace Barnes, and his brother, Lloyd “Laddie” D Brace, Jr. Mr. Brace was born in 1932 in Boston, the son of Lloyd DeWitt Brace and Helen Rhodes. He attended Dover public schools, the Fessenden School, Phillips Academy Andover and Dartmouth College, Class of 1954. After graduation, Dick spent two years in the US Army Ordnance Corps, primarily in France, being honorably discharged as 1st Lieutenant. Dick attended Suffolk University Law School while working for New England Telephone, receiving his law degree in 1961. Dick joined Sherburne, Powers & Needham prior to practicing contract law with New England Mutual Life and later Sun Life Insurance companies. Dick was a man of strong ethics and lack of pretense who was loyal to friends and devoted to family. He enjoyed a wicked sense of humor. His religion was Nature…just enjoying the outdoors. Most of his summers were spent in Northport, Maine. He loved fly fishing on the Miramichi River in Canada, canoeing adventures with friends as far away as Iceland, hunting with special buddies in the Dartmouth Grant, and shooting waterfowl in New England marshes. He also loved to stack wood and putter around the yard. Services will be held at the Dover Church in Dover, MA at 1 pm, Saturday May 4th followed by a reception in Kraft Hall. Burial is private. Collins, Mary

Mary P. Collins (McNamara), formerly of Jamaica Plain and a long time resident of Dedham, passed away on April 3, 2019 at the age of 96. Mary was born in Boston and the daughter of James J. and Margaret (McManus) McNamara.  She was the beloved wife of the late Francis M. Collins and dear mother of James J. Peterson of Dedham, Michael J. Peterson and his wife Kathryn of Norton, Francis Collins of Dedham, and the late Mary M. Collins.  Proud grandmother of Michael Peterson, Kerryanne Cummins, Megan Wells, Carleton Wells, Shawn Collins, Jared Collins and Matthew Collins.  Loving great-grandmother of Mason and James Cummins and Lillianna Wells.  Dear aunt of Donna McNamara-Jones, James McNamara and the late John McNamara and sister of the late James McNamara.  Mary was devoted to her family and will be sorely missed. Doukas, Helen

Eleni ‘Helen’ Doukas, a resident of West Roxbury for 64 years passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 26, 2019. She celebrated her 88th birthday on September 11th 2018. Born in 1930 in Greece, Helen was the daughter of Vasili and Vasilki Georgaklis of Greece. Helen was a talented seamstress, cook and gardener. She dedicated much of her career working for Polaroid Corporation. A devoted family woman, she enjoyed feeding anyone in sight and no one left her beloved home hungry. She boasted the green thumb of the family, always tending to her garden and plants, all that she planted grew to be beautiful and healthy. Helen enjoyed spending time in Cape Cod with her sisters, brothers-in-laws, children and grandchildren. Helen was the cherished wife and best friend of Peter Doukas whom predeceased Helen in March, 2018. Dear mother of Maryann Zitoli and her husband Paul of Westwood and Charles Doukas and loving companion Kathleen Walsh of Dedham. Devoted grandmother (‘yiayia’) to Peter Zitoli and his wife Katie, and Lauren Zitoli and her fiancé Oren Wolpe. Loving sister to Christine Kopellas and recently departed husband Fotios, Tasia Kourtis and her husband Fotios, the late George Georgaklis and his wife Ourania, and Voula Maheras and her husband Pericles of Greece. Dear sister-in-law of Clara Doukas as well as the late Ida and Ted Doukas. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She eagerly awaited the prospect of becoming a great-grandmother this coming July and welcoming a new grandson marrying into the family in August. No words can describe what a wonderful, honest, hardworking and special lady she was. She “loved everyone” and was the best yiayia anyone could ask for. Never one to complain about anything, her constant smile and positive attitude were infectious and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30th from 10-11AM at St. Nectarios Church, 39 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale, followed by a Funeral Service at 11AM. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Boston. Becker, Dr. Martin D.

Dr. Martin D. Becker, 84, passed peacefully Monday, March 25, 2019, after a brief illness. Martin spent his final days in his Westwood, Mass. home surrounded by loving family and serenaded by the classical music he loved since his childhood. Martin was a well-respected physician, specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, in a career that spanned 35 years. He was on the staff of both Norwood Hospital and Sturdy Memorial in Attleboro, and ran a successful practice in Norwood. He served as President of the medical staff of Norwood Hospital in 1978 and remained an active participant in staff meetings after his retirement. Martin was an accomplished sailor and spent many days cruising the waters off Boston, Martha’s Vineyard and Maine on Nose Job III. As a 50-year member of the Great Blue Hill Chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron, Martin was responsible for teaching a sailing course to dozens of students. A student of opera and classical music, Martin found much pleasure listening to live and recorded concerts, and practicing piano. He was a voracious reader of history and loved sharing what he learned on many subjects. He and his wife Gail traveled internationally in his retirement, and enjoyed many winters in Barbados and summers on Martha’s Vineyard. Martin was a 1952 graduate of Revere High School, Boston College (1956) and Tufts Medical School (1960). After completing his education, Martin served in the U.S. Air Force as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by Gail, his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, daughter Anne Becker of Newport, R.I., daughter Lee Becker Salamone and her husband David of Springfield, Va., son Al Becker and his wife Shannon of Norwood, Mass. and daughter Sharon Becker of New York City. He was Grandpa to Lilly and Marty Salamone, and Pop Pop to CeCe and Coley Becker. A memorial service for Martin will be held Sunday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at Folsom Funeral Home in Westwood. Visiting hours will precede the service beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be sent to the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society at P.O. Box 4189, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568, or the American Cancer Society at 1324 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02301.
