Papadakis, Athanasia

Athanasia Papadakis of Roslindale, died peacefully on June 26, 2019, at the age of 87.  She was born in the village of Giorgitsi in Sparta, Greece, to Peter and Christoula (Gouzoulis) Kalantzis.  A proud and loving wife of 54 years to Ioannis (John) Papadakis, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Carol Travayiakis and her husband Konstantinos, Georgia Stavroulakis and her husband Ioannisof, Christine Papadakis-Kanaris and her husband Nicolas Kanaris, and Emmanuel Papadakis and his wife B. Beloved grandmother of Eleftherios and his wife Sophia, Marina and her husband Demetri, Petros, Maria-Christina and her husband Nick, Ioannis, Anastas, John Demetri, Evangeline, Alexandra, Joanna, Lena-Athanasia and great-grandchildren Konstantino, Haralambos, Raphaela, Antonis, and Haroula.  Dear sisters Maria Kapsaskis of Jamaica Plain, Anna Giannopoulos and her husband Peter, and brother Constantine Kalantzis.  She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was preceded in death by her brother Very Reverend Dr. George Kalangis and sister-in-law Efthimia (Effie) Kalantzis.  A woman of strength and wisdom, Athanasia worked tirelessly for the betterment of her family. Beloved by all who knew her, she was a devout and faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church.  She enjoyed her garden, travelling to her village of Giorgitsi, and spending time with her family and friends. Eternal be her memory and may she rest in peace.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of New England.  Please go directly to church.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale, MA from 4 p.m. to 8pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Athanasia’s memory may be made to the the above named church, c/o Iconography Fund. Anderson, Gerhard T.

Gerhard T. Anderson “Gerry,” of Norfolk, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 24, 2019. Gerry was born in Norwood, MA on September 11, 1942, to Roy A. Anderson and Elsie L. Thorn Anderson, he was raised in Westwood, MA. Gerry graduated from Westwood High School in 1960 and earned his Bachelors of Science in Plastics Technology from Lowell Technological Institute in 1966, now the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Gerry lived in Norfolk from 1975 until his passing in 2019. Gerry married the love of his life Elizabeth “Beth” Broman in 1975. The Anderson’s began their marriage in Norfolk and raised two children in their home on King Street. Gerry leaves behind beloved wife Beth, daughter Laurel Anderson of Waltham, MA, son Scott Anderson of West Palm Beach, Fl., sister Gail Anderson, her husband Ron Anderson of Plymouth, MA, and mother-in-law Carolyn (Cole) Broman of Orleans, MA. Gerry served in the US Airforce from 1967-1969 as an Operations Specialist at Otis Airforce Base on Cape Cod. After his time in the Airforce, he had a very full and successful career in plastics engineering. He began his employment at Byrd INC. in Walpole, MA. in 1969 as a Senior Process Engineer and most recently worked as an Extrusion Engineer with PPG Aerospace Cuming Microwave Corporation right up until his passing. Gerry described this job as his favorite and the highlight of his career. He loved the place, the people, and the projects. In between, he had other exciting engineering positions throughout Massachusetts. Gerry had a strong love of God, country, family. Faith and music defined him and were in every fiber of his being. His interest in music started at age five. At twelve he joined the Norwood Musicians Union. He established the Gerry Anderson Orchestra in the 1960s. Gerry served the church with his musical gifts playing organ and keyboard for Emmanuel Baptist Church of Norfolk and played the keyboard for the Orleans United Methodist Church summer beach services on Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA. Gerry had a passion for photography and traveling. He and his family explored extensively throughout the world, including travels to Scandinavia, Africa, Central America, and also enjoyed traversing the US National Parks. Cape Cod held a special place in Gerry’s heart where he enjoyed boating and navigating the beautiful waters of Pleasant Bay and Chatham. Gerry was a true Renaissance Man. His creativity, innovation, and determination could solve any problem. Gerry’s goal was always to find the most efficient way possible. God not only blessed him with his gift of music but also with a true engineering mind. Gerry was handy in electrical, automotive, plumbing, sewing, and loved gadgets and electronics. Gerry will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 30, 2019, from 4-8 PM at Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood, MA. A funeral will be held on Monday, July 1, 2019 at 11 AM, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood Road,Norfolk, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s name can be made to Caring for a Cure, Mass General Hospital Development Office, 125 Nashua St., Boston, MA 02214 or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 63 Rockwood, Rd., Norfolk, MA., 02056. Donations of blood/platelets to the American Red Cross would be appreciated as well.

Bitar, Issam

Issam “Sam” Chafik Bitar, of Dedham, passed away at his home on June 20th, 2019, with his family by his side.  He was the dear husband of Elaine F. (Webb), and devoted father of Rebekah Bitar of NH, Andrew Bitar of VA, and Rachel Bitar of RI. Loving grandfather of Sebastion LeBritton and Owen Chafik Bitar. Dear brother of Dr. Kamal Bitar of Beaumont, TX, Dr. Jihad Bitar of Lorraine, OH, and Ragida Kaissi of Columbus, MO.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 9:15 AM on Monday, June 24th, 2019, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham, and proceed to St. George Orthodox Church, 55 Emmonsdale Rd, West Roxbury, where visitation will be held from 10-11AM. Immediately following the visitation, a Funeral Service for Sam will be held at the church beginning at 11AM. Interment to follow at The Gardens Cemetery in West Roxbury. 

Wallin, Kurt

Kurt Darrell Wallin passed away on June 10, 2019 at the age of 93 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston  where he was a resident and cared for by a very compassionate staff   Born in Aurora, Nebraska to Frederick and Esther Victoria (Dahlberhg) Wallin, who farmed near the village of Hordville, Nebraska.  Kurt attended District 90 Grammar School, a one room schoolhouse located near Hordville.  In 7th grade, he began having vision problems and attended a high school for the visually handicapped.  After graduation he attended Luther Junior College and earned an Associates Degree. He then worked at Bethphage Mission near Hordville for about 5 years.   After moving to Massachusetts, Kurt attended the School of Nursing at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea and after graduation, worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the next 38 years.  In 1951 Kurt and his former wife, the late Esther Aronson became members of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Roxbury.  When he retired, he became the custodian there and worked for the next 12 years.  With many renovations going on, Kurt learned to cope with all kinds of construction concerns.  He said it taught him much patience and that he learned how to deal with and solve many kinds of problems.  Kurt will be greatly missed by his Resurrection church family.   Kurt is survived by his daughter, Lois Manzi and her husband John of Florida along with his grandchildren; Kirsten also of Florida,  Gregory and his girlfriend Kristen and Michael and his wife Vanessa, and great grandchildren Clementina and ShellyAnn, all of New York.  He was predeceased by his son John O. Wallin in 2017.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019, relatives and friends are invited to Resurrection Lutheran Church at 94 Warren St., Boston for visitation at 1PM followed by a funeral service at 2PM.  Interment will take place in Nebraska in Hordville Cemetery.

Drogitis, Panagiotis

Panagiotis Drogitis of Roslindale, MA, passed away on June 7, 2019.  Beloved husband of Dionysia (Papadatos) Dorgitis.  Loving father of Stella Avramidis and her husband Dimitiros, and Maris Vamvakis and her husband Iouannis.  Cherished Pappou of Eftalia and Panagiota Avramidis.  Brother of Maris Damoulakis and Anastasios Dorgitis.  Brother-in-law of Panagiotis Papadatos.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends here and in Greece.  Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10AM at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale.  Please go directly to church.  Visiting hours will be held at the FOLSOM FUNERAL HOME. 63 BELGRADE AVE., ROSLINDALE, on Monday, June 10, 2019 from 5PM to 8PM.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to  attend.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the above named church.  Burial will be held in The Gardens Cemetery.


Fahey, Helen E.

Helen Esther (Dickson) Fahey, a resident of Dedham, died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Season’s Hospice in Milton.  She was 86.  Helen was born April 23, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Leonard D. Bramwell and Hilda Elsie (Tauber) Dickson.  She graduated from Dedham High School and worked as an administrative assistant for Owens Corning Glassware.  Helen enjoyed roller skating and was a member of the Sophistiskaters at Roll-Land in Norwood.  She also enjoyed yard sales, antique stores, ballroom dancing at Moseleys in Dedham, and her travels including those to Hawaii, Florida and Canada.  Helen is survived by her daughter, Helen L. Fisher of Walpole; her four sons, George E. Fahey Jr., and his wife Pamela, of Carver, Geoffrey A. Fahey, and his wife Stephanie, of Foxboro, Thomas P. Fahey, and his partner Paula, of Augusta, Maine, and Timothy J. Fahey, and his partner Patty Curran, of Randolph; her brother, James Dickson of Florida; her sister, Jackie Herght, of Connecticut; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Lorraine Osojnicki. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 5th from 5-8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service Thursday at 11 am at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham with the Rev. James Butler of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Dedham officiating.   

St. Paul, Claudette

St. Paul, Claudette (Bernier) – of Hyde Park, unexpectedly passed away at her home on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the age of 62. She was the devoted wife of Michel B. St. Paul for almost 40 years, and the loving mother of Monique St. Paul, and the late Rachelle St. Paul. Dear sister of Edwige Madden, Nadine Zephyr, Michele Baysden, and Nancy Bernier. Loving daughter of the late Ulerick and Ursula Bernier.

Claudette was born August 15, 1956. Her father suggested she go on a cruise in 2004 and as a result she set sail an average of three times a year ever since. An avid traveler, she visited Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Greece, and most of the Caribbean. Her last cruise to Cuba was last month. Claudette read romance novels abundantly, occasionally reading mysteries and general fiction for some variety. Books allowed her to further travel the world without ever leaving her home. Claudette also enjoyed testing her luck with the slots at the casino. Ever the pragmatist, she played the penny slots for high fun at a low risk. 

Claudette deeply loved her family and dedicated her life to ensuring their safety and happiness. 

Visitation for Claudette will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 6-8PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St, Dedham, MA 02026. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donate to your local library in her name to share her love of reading.

DiMarzio, Michael J.

Michael John DiMarzio, a  resident of Tewksbury, died Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Tewksbury State Hospital.  He was 59.  Michael was born March 28, 1960 in Hyde Park, Massachusetts, the son of Edward James Sr and Helen Loretta (Salvucci) DiMarzio.  He graduated from Hyde Park High School and did a tour of duty in the US Army before working as a laborer in the road construction industry.  Michael enjoyed cars, singing and renovating houses.  He is survived by his wife, Karen Lynne (Anderson) DiMarzio; his two sons, Michael J. and Anthony DiMarzio; his three grandchildren, Aisha, Emily, and Noah DiMarzio; his four sisters, Helen Prive, Elaine DiMarzio, Diane Hendershott, and Anita Conti; and his four brothers, Daniel, James, Edward and Paul DiMarzio.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by a funeral service at 8 o clock.  Interment will be private.  Donations in Michael’s memory to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York City, New York,10018 would be appreciated. 

Anderson, Catherine

Catherine “Kay” Mary Anderson (MacDonald) of Plainville, MA passed away on May 8, 2019 at age 95. Kay was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 10, 1923 and was one of six children of the late James J. and Catherine Ann MacDonald. She formerly resided in Norwood, Reading, and Woburn. Kay is lovingly remembered for her faith and devotion to prayer and the bonds she shared with her family and dear friends. Her loved ones are comforted by Kay’s frequent reminder, “It’s not goodbye. It’s see you later.” She worked as a teacher in the Blacketts Lake Public School system and was a member of St. Agnes Parish in Reading, St. Timothy’s Church prayer group in Norwood, and of St. Martha’s Parish in Plainville. Beloved wife of the late Melvin A. Anderson. Dear sister to her late brothers and sister Neil J., Duncan, Neil H., and Gertrude, and survived by her sister Jessie. She was the wife of the late Leonard MacNeil and loving mother to their three sons Raymond (Linda), Kevin, and Bruce, as well as her three step children Richard (June), Christina (Earl), and Karen (Ed). Cherished Nana to six grandchildren Kelly (Daniel), Lindsey (Patrick), Brian (Pamala), Kristen (Justin), Rachel, and Cameron, four step grandchildren Michelle (Mike), Mark (Anna), David (Melissa), and Kyle, and six great-grandchildren who will fondly remember her. Friends and family may visit Folsom and May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood on Wednesday, May 15 from 2-4pm.  Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, May 16 starting at 8:45am and proceed at 9:30am to St. Martha’s Parish, 227 South Street (Route 1A), Plainville for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. McLaughlin, Barbara J. (Scott)

Barbara Jean (Scott) McLaughlin, a resident of Taunton since 1995, and formerly of Dedham, died Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.  She was 76.  Barbara was born March 1, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, the youngest daughter of James Henry and Mary Christina (Arnott) Scott.  Her family moved to Dedham when she was 13 and Barbara graduated from Dedham High School.  She worked for Teledyne Philbrick in Dedham as a quality control inspector for 18 years.  She enjoyed puzzles, knitting, and needlepoint.  Barbara is survived by her husband, George Matthew McLaughlin Jr., and her former husband Charles Hewitt.  She is the mother of Christopher Hewitt of Brockton, Gregory Hewitt, and his wife Lauren, of North Attleboro, and Paula Massarelli, and her husband Robert, of Walpole; and the stepmother of Matthew McLaughlin, and his wife Arianna, of Cumming, Georgia, Derek McLaughlin of Fall River, and Erin Cidade, and her husband Richard, of Fall River.  She is further survived by her 14 grandchildren; Jennifer, Hillary, Shannon, Courtney, Olivia, Emily, Bobby, Cody, Gabriella, Sophia, Alissa, Bella, Drew, and McKenzie; her two great grandchildren, Berlyn and Nova; her three brothers, James Scott of Hampton, New Hampshire, Kenneth Scott of Dedham, and Lawrence Scott of Dedham; and her sister, Jane C. McGowan of Middleboro.  She was the sister of the late Carol Lavita.  Visiting hours will be held, Saturday, May 4th from 3 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Services and interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-99959
