Calello, Robert

Robert W. Calello passed away on July 27, 2019 at the age of 67. Born in Dedham, MA, he was the son of Mario and Bertha (Tays) Calello. Bob graduated from Dedham High School and pursued a career in music. For most of his life, he was drummer and vocalist playing in venues throughout the State. Bob was a member of three bands—Lovelace, State of Mind and Grapefruit Doorbell. He enjoyed being with family, riding his motorcycle and hanging with friends at the Midway.  Bob is survived by his sister Jane Creamer, his daughters Ashley Grumazescu and Kimberely Semler, his son Ryan Calello, his stepson Jamie Duffy, five grandchildren and his nephew Jason Davies. Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm at Folsom’s Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham, Mass, followed by a funeral service from 6pm to 6:30 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Monterisi, Joseph

Joseph G. Monterisi, of Readville, passed away on July 26, 2019 at the age of 90.  Born in Boston on June 12, 1929, he was the son of Giuseppe and Maria Monterisi.  Joseph served in the Army during WWII from 1946-1948 and was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal and the WWII Victory Medal for his service.  He was a member of Mil Par Seniors in Hyde Park, and was a member of the St. Anne’s Bowling League, as well as the Bocce Club in Readville.  Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Mary T. (D’Alvisio) Monterisi, and dear father of David Monterisi and his wife Elaine, of Dedham, and Anne M. O’Neil, of Readville.  Loving Papa of Andrea and Anthony Monterisi, and Matthew, Meghan, and Kevin O’Neil.  Proud Great Papa of Parker Tanner.  Dear brother of Sergi Monterisi of Andover, and the late Frank, Peter, and Nina Monterisi, Jessie Fernandi, and Vera Celeste. Brother-in-law of Robert and Lorraine O’Mara of S. Yarmouth.  Visiting hours for Joseph will be held on Monday from 4-8PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., DEDHAM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, starting at 9AM, and proceed to St. Anne’s Church, 82 West Milton St., Readville, for his Funeral Mass at 10:00AM. Ross, Rose M.

Rose Marie (Palmerini) Ross, a longtime resident of Norwood, died Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Norwood Hospital.  She was 96.  Rose was born January 1, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Falcone) Palmerini.  She grew up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School.  Rose had a varied occupational history.  She worked in a tannery located off Endicott Street in Norwood, as a sales associate at the W.T. Grant store in Norwood, and as a hairdresser in two different salons.  Rose was a communicant at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish of Norwood where she also enjoyed playing bingo.  Other hobbies included knitting, crocheting and reading.  She also liked to frequent the Norwood Senior Center.  Rose was the mother of Carol McCue of Bellingham; the grandmother of James R. McCue of Wrentham, and Steven P. McCue of Waltham; and the great grandmother of Isobel and Sam.  She is also survived by two sisters, Josephine Palmerini of Norwood, and Mary Jones of Walpole.  She was the sister of the late James and Orrigo Palmerini, Jennie Ippoliti, and Elizabeth Leggeri.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home, Wednesday morning starting at 10 am and proceed with us to St. Catherine of Sienna Church, 549 Washington Street, Norwood for her funeral mass at 11 o clock.  Interment will follow in Highlands Cemetery in Norwood.  Donations to the Norwood Senior Center, 275 Prospect Street, Norwood, MA 02062 would be appreciated.

Wheelock, Morgan Dix

Morgan Dix Wheelock, a world renowned landscape architect, died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at his home in Brookline.  He was 81.  Morgan was a resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, and formerly a resident of New York.  He was born in Manhattan, New York and attended the Fessenden School in Newton, Massachusetts, before graduating from St. Paul’s High School in Concord, Massachusetts.  He earned his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Architecture from Harvard University.  Morgan is survived by his wife, Judith (Taylor) Wheelock; his children, Timothy Dix Wheelock of Natick, Morgan Dix Wheelock III of Chestnut Hill, Cornelia Wheelock of Sherborn, Edmund Stairs Twining IV of Sherborn, and Taylor Pratt Twining of Rumson, New Jersey.  He was the brother of Dr. Frederick Wheelock of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  A Memorial Service will be held September 11, 2019 at 1 pm at Memorial Church at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Whalen, Elsie

Elsie Theresa Whalen, a resident of Highland Glen in Westwood, died Tuesday July 23, 2019 at age 96, surrounded by her devoted family. She was the beloved wife of Jarlath Joseph Whalen, who passed to the Lord just 351 days before her. Elsie was a great example of deep faith and trust in the Lord and made sure to pass that faith on to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was the mother of Barbaramary Horgan, and her husband Fred of Walpole, and Anthony, and his wife Najat Hasrouni of Holliston; and Nonna to Elizabeth Horgan Pruitt, and her husband Richard of Norwood, Margaret Mary “Meg” Horgan of Chicago, the late Catherine Martha Whalen, Mary Theresa Whalen of Holliston; and her special loves, grandson Joseph Whalen of Holliston and great-granddaughter Penelope Pruitt of Norwood. The fourth child of ten, after her own mother passed when she was a young teenager, she became like a mom to her many brothers: Rev Father Anthony, Guido, Enrico, Lawrence, Louis and Matthew, all having gone to the Lord. She is survived by her youngest brother, Attilio, and his wife Judy, whom she loved as a son. Her two sisters have also gone before her: Gina, as an infant, and Rose Tornello, and her late husband Sal. Elsie is also survived by her sisters-in-law Pat, and Terry.  For much of her adult life Elsie was a daily communicant. She worked constantly at being an exemplary Carmelite (Third Order). She labored with her husband at their many endeavors and devotions including the sale of St Anthony’s Messenger and Liguorian Magazines, the Legion of Mary and as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and leading the recitation of the Holy Rosary at many area nursing homes. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 4-7 PM, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St, Westwood. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home Monday starting at 10 am and proceed with us to St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St, Westwood for her Funeral Mass at 11 o clock. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery in Boston. Donations in her memory to Catholic Charities, 275 West Broadway, Boston, MA, 02127 would be appreciated.

Wilcox, Priscilla

On July 16, 2019 Priscilla T Wilcox, “Cilla”, of Westwood, Ma and formerly of West Hartford, Ct and Boca Grande, FL, passed away at 91 years of age. She was a member of the Colonial Dames of America and direct descendant of pilgrims Miles Standish and Priscilla Alden as well as Jonathan Trumbull, the first governor of Connecticut. She was born in New York City and was the daughter of Alan T Trumbull and Helen Trumbull of Englewood, NJ. where she attended Dwight Morrow High School. She attended Western College for Women, now part of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She married William W Wilcox V in Englewood NJ in 1948 and moved to West Hartford, CT where she brought up three children – Ellen, Priscilla, and Wil. Priscilla served on many community boards including President of the Hartford Hospital Jr Auxiliary and Vice President of the Jr League of Hartford. She was passionate about gardening and was a member and past President of the Garden Club of Hartford. Priscilla moved to Boca Grande FL where she and Bill had spent many vacations. Here she continued her love of gardening as a member of the Boca Grande Garden Club and Planters of Boca Grande. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Boca Grande Historical Society and was a member of the Women’s Club. Priscilla was an avid fisher woman and won third prize in the 1966 Annual Field and Stream Tarpon Fishing Tournament by catching a 175 pound tarpon. She was also featured in a 1999 article on tarpon fishing in the Tarpon Times of the Boca Beason regaling both Bill’s and her love of Tarpon fishing. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Van Buren and brother Bill Trumbull, her brothers in law Michael Wilcox and Stephen Wilcox and her sister in law Jane Wilcox. She is survived by her husband Bill of 71 years, her sister Anne Chapin and her children Ellen Wilcox, Priscilla Wilcox, and Wil Wilcox and her grandchildren Tara, James, Lindsay, and Whitney and her great grandchildren Ellie, James, Cian, and Ronan. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation of the loving care and companionship offered to Priscilla over the past 3.5 years by Resty Nabukeera. Walter, William

William Alfred Ferdinand Walter, a resident of Westwood, died Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.  He was 91.  Bill was born November 27, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of Arthur and Martha (Brahmen) Walter, immigrants from Germany.  He graduated from Roslindale High School and served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War.  Bill worked as a fine mechanic assembling x-ray equipment for the Franke Scholz X-Ray Company of Boston. He is survive by his wife Renate Elizabeth (Hampe) Walter; two daughters, Kristi Elizabeth Sinkus of New Bedford, and Erika Louise O’Sullivan of Esat Bridgewater; his brother Henry Walter; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.  A Memorial Service is being planned at a time to be announced.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Boylston Schul-Verein, 8 County Street, Walpole, MA 02081 would be appreciated.

Dunn, George H.

George Henry Dunn, a longtime Dedham resident, died Friday, July 12, 2019 at his home in Dedham. He was 87. George was born in Boston, the only son of Robert and Mary (Mcauley) Dunn.  He was a graduate of English High School in Boston, and Northeastern University in Boston. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1947 and served as a sergeant from 1950 until 1952, seven months of that time in Korea. George worked as a scale model builder for Stone & Webster in Sudbury.  He was an avid mountain climber, who especially enjoyed the peaks of New Hampshire including Mount Washington.  George is survived by his wife, Frances A. (Cosenzo); his daughter, Elizabeth A. Dunn of Hawaii; his son, Stephen J. Dunn, and his wife Anne, of Kingston; his sister, Rita Farmer, of Cannes, France; and was the proud Grampy of Sarah and Matthew Dunn. He was the brother of the late Master Gunnery Sgt USMC Robert Dunn, the late Staff Sgt USMC Paul Dunn, and the late James Dunn USMC.  Services and interment in the National Cemetery at Bourne will be private.

Triantafyllos, Mary

Mary (Koskoris) Triantafyllos, a resident of West Roxbury, died Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Atria Longmeadow Place in Burlington peacefully with her family by her side.  She was 93.  Mary was born May 10, 1926 in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of Pericles and Demetra (Siemekis) Koskoris, immigrants from Pelopnesia, Greece.  In 1932 they moved back to Greece, only to flee impending war in 1939. A devout Greek Orthodox Christian and a fiercely independent woman, Mary earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Boston State College and taught in the Boston and Medway Public School Systems, taught physical education in the Boston and Stoughton public school, and worked as a lab technician at Tracerlab and Polaroid.  She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Boston Women’s Society, and well as a parishioner of the church.  Mary was the beloved wife of the late Terry Triantafyllos, and the mother of Ellen Gyftopoulos Sdrollas of Boston, Demetra Papas of Billerica, and the late Sophia Triantafyllos Moore.  She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; Maria Turcios, Alexandra Papas, Nicholas Papas, Stephanie Papas, Marielle Moore, Magdalena Gyftopoulos, Constantino Sdrollas, Victoria Papas, and Terrance Moore; and her two great grandchildren, Peter Turcios, and Anthony Turcios.  Mary was the sister of the late George Koskoris and the late Bertha Panagos.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, July 16th from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Relative and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home Wednesday starting at 8:30 am and process with us to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Boston, 514 Parker Street, Boston for her funeral at 10 o clock.  Interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Power of Flowers, 365 East Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876 would be appreciated.

Travis, William E., Sr.

William E. Travis, Sr. passed away on July 3, 2019 at the age of 91.  Born in Boston, he was the son of Albert W. and Laura L. (Emmel) Travis.  A Korean and WorldWar II veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his children,  William E., Jr. and his wife Carol of Minnesota, Janice Principe, Jean McGowan and her husband Richard, all of Norwood, and Steven Travis of Brockton, his siblings Frank Travis of Falmouth and Laura Ballard of Florida.  He was predeceased by his brother Albert Travis.  Also survived by his grandchildren; Christopher Morana, Jason and Mark Travis, Anthony Prinicipe, Richard, Emily and Jarred McGowan and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation from 11AM to 12PM will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood.  A graveside service and interment with military honors will follow at the Gardens of Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.
