Kakkas, Vasilios

Vasilios N. Kakkas, a longtime resident of West Roxbury, died Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston.  He was 79.  Vasilios was born October 3, 1940 in Krokees, Greece, a son of Nikolaos and Panagiota (Christofilakis) Kakkas.  After emigrating to the United States he owned his own restaurant and then worked for 23 years as the owner and operator  of B & D Tailors and Cleaners in Norwood.  Vasilios loved fishing, casinos, dog and horse racing and food.  Vasilios is survived by his wife, Dimitra (Seremetis) Kakkas; his two sons, James Kakkas of West Robury, and Nick Kakkas of Texas; his brother Dimitri Kakas, and his wife Jenny, of Sharon.  He was the brother of the late Chris Kakas, and his wife Nancy,  the late George Fondas, and his wife Toula, the late Kiki Katsoulis, and her late husband Demetrios, and the late Ekaterine Kalogerakos; and brother-in-law of Konstandina and Kostas Speggos of Greece.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, both in the United State and in Greece.  Visiting hour will be held Monday, November 18th from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Relatives and friends will gather Tuesday starting at 10:30 am at the funeral home and proceed to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church. 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale, MA 02131 for his funeral service at 11:30 am.  Interment will follow in the Gardens Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury.  In lieu of flowers donations to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, (address above) would be appreciated.

Kessler, Allison

Allison Costain Kessler, a resident of Millis, MA, passed away on November 13, 2019 at the age of 78 at the Stanley Tippet Home in Needham.  Born in New York City, New York, she was the loving daughter of Harold Haliday Costain and Maude Price and the beloved wife of the late Edward Kessler. Allison devoted her life to her spiritual pursuits of prayer and healing for well over 50 years.  She was a true friend and will be missed by everyone who knew her.  All are welcome to attend visiting hours on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St. in Westwood, MA.  Interment is private.  She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne.

Cos, Theresa A.

Theresa Agnes (Brennan) Cos, a resident of Highland Glen in Westwood, and formerly of Medfield, died Thursday, October 31, 2019 at her home in Westwood.  She was 93.  Theresa was born January 25, 1926 in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City, the youngest of the nine children of Andrew and Anna (Curran) Brennan.  After high school she took secretarial courses in prepare her for employment at Maritime College in New York and at Yankee Films.  She also worked as a public stenographer and a notary.  She was a voracious reader, especially enjoying mysteries; she loved crossword puzzles; and she could frequently be found playing solitaire on her kindle.  Theresa also enjoyed the activities and fellowship she found at the Medfield Council on Aging.  She was the wife of the late Grant Alexander Cos, and is survived by her daughter, Christine Cos of Westwood; her two sons, Grant C. Cos, and his wife Jennifer, of Rochester, New York, and James A. Cos, and his wife Cecelia, of Danbury, Connecticut; her four granddaughters, Phoebe K. Cos, Sophia N. Cos, Alexandra Cos, and Gabriella Cos; and her sister, Marlene Cox of Bayview, New Jersey.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street, Westwood. Interment will be at a later date in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Danbury, Connecticut.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Medfield Council on Aging, 1 Ice House Road, Medfield, MA 02052 would be appreciated. Hassey, Alfred “Butch

Alfred J. Hassey, Jr. “Butch”, of Wrentham and formerly of Dedham, passed away on Nov. 6, 2019 with his family by his side. He was 75 years old. Born in Boston, and the son of Alfred J.Hassey, Sr. and Evelyn P. (Prisco) Navaroli. Butch was known for his humor and friendship. Once you met him, you wanted him as your friend. He never let you leave his house hungry and made sure you went home with food. His love of music was due to his early days as a DJ for parties and weddings. He liked to play pool and horseshoes. His family fondly calls him “Mr. Fix It”. He would be there to do anything you needed or if he thought you needed something done. He was a member of the former Moose Club and Eagles Club of Hyde Park. He was “Papa Butch” to his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. Everyone he met became a friend. He just enjoyed people and will be sorely missed. Butch is survived by his wife Cindy (DeCoste) Hassey of Wrentham, his children; Michael Hassey of Wrentham, Lisa Rivera and her husband Lou of Plainville, Stacy Denekamp and David Roney of Pawtucket, RI, John Hassey of Wareham, Paul Hassey and his wife Karen of Fall River and Mark Hassey and his wife Jennifer of Fairhaven. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Derek and Jeremy Denekamp, Corryn and Rebecca Rivera, Christopher, Jeffrey, Matthew, Aiden, Cody, Mackenna, Brandon and Darrien Hassey and his great grandchild, Kemelah Hassey. His dear cats, “Misty and Raven”. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael Hassey, Jean Mitchell, Claire Burns and Doris Higgins. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. His Funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 10AM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Nelson, Joan E.

Joan Elizabeth (Homer) Nelson, a longtime resident of Readville, died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Milton Hospital.  She was 84.  Joan was born April 26, 1935, one of the ten children of Alloyous and Marie B. (Frietag) Homer.  She was the wife of the late Earl Howard “Huck” Nelson, and was the mother of James Nelson, and his wife Liz, of Holbrook, Linda Childs, and her fiance John, of Nashua, NH, and Laura Gallagher, and her husband Drew, of Sharon.  Joan was the grandmother of Kelly Newcomb, Amy Ethier, Jimmy Nelson, Jillian Nelson, Joey Nelson, Drew Gallagher Jr., and Brad Gallagher, and the great grandmother of Megan Ethier, Bella Newcomb, Colby Ethier, Baylee Newcomb, and Kennedy Ethier.  She was the sister of Joseph Homer and Barbara Hammel, and of the late Alloyous, Robert, Casper, and John Homer, Pearl Kiely, Marie Kelly, and Roses Colleran.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, November 7th from 5 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by interment in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.

Kapetanakis, Charles

Charles Kapetanakis, a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a long illness.  He was 68.  Charles was born November 25, 1950, a son of George and Kleanthy (Davis) Kapetanakis.  He graduated with the Class of 1968 from Dedham High School where he played on the football team during his junior and senior years.  He was a member of Boy Scouts Troop 3 in Dedham, the oldest continuously operated Boy Scout troop in American, and had a lifelong interest in the affairs of the troop. Charles attended the Northeastern University School of Criminal Justice for three years.  He held a deep interest in worldwide current events and never missed an opportunity to encourage his fellow Americans to vote; a right and privilege he held dear. 

Visiting hours will be held Monday, November 4th from 5 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday at 11:30 am at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Ave, Roslindale followed by interment in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.  Donations to St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale, MA 02131 would be appreciated.

Lambrecht, Paul

Paul Lambrecht (66) of Norwood, passed away on October 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 21, 1953, Paul grew up in Dedham and was a graduate of Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, class of 1971.  He then went on to continue his education at Bowdoin College after being awarded a full academic and football scholarship. Paul graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in 1975 before returning to Massachusetts. Paul is survived by his wife Cindy (Brousseau) Lambrecht, children: Allison Webster and husband Benjamin of Norwood, Andrea Bremner and husband Devon of Indian Land, South Carolina and Daniel Lambrecht and wife Jillian of Wayland. Paul is also survived and adored by his four grandchildren: Claire and Cole Webster and Isabelle and Jack Bremner. He is also survived by three siblings: Katharine Lambrecht of Dedham, Michael Lambrecht of Dedham and Stephen Lambrecht of Mansfield. He is predeceased by his parents Edward & Ethel (Rowen) Lambrecht and brother David.

A testament to his strong ties to family, Paul and his wife Cindy were happily married for just shy of 40 years. He was dedicated to providing for his family and worked for more than 30 years as an adjuster for commercial re-insurance claims.  Paul was a die-hard sports fan, he was well known for not only watching, but knowing stats from a plethora of sports around the globe. Paul never missed a game in which any of his children participated whether it was on the baseball field, basketball court, or on the track.  He enjoyed spending quality time with each of his children and grandchildren.  Over the years he could be found with any of them playing catch in the backyard, shooting hoops, or running through town.  Paul particularly loved spending summer vacations in Acadia National Park with his family camping and teaching his children the joys of family and spending quality time together.  He enjoyed a good book, particularly if it involved a grandchild on his lap.

Paul was a kind-hearted man that would do anything for anyone. His big heart and soft-spoken demeanor were not his only genuine qualities. Paul had quite the sense of humor and loved playing pranks on his children and grandchildren.  He was known for his quick wit and his huge smile that was often accompanied by a special twinkle in his eye.

Relatives and friends will gather on Monday, November 4, 2019 for his funeral service at 10:30AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 62 Cedar St. in Dedham.  Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.  In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Lambrecht’s memory made be made to American Parkinsons Disease Association, 72 E. Concord St. C3, Boston, MA 02118.

Pezzano, Augusta R.

Augusta Rosemunde Pezzano, a longtime resident of Readville, died Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston.  She was 86.  Augusta was born December 7, 1932 in Munich, Germany, the daughter of Anthony and Rosa Pureiner.  Augusta moved to the United States in 1 952 and in 1957 she married Anthony J. Pezzano Jr., to whom she remained married to for 56 years until his passing in 2013. Augusta was the beloved mother of William A. Pezzano of Readville, and the late Yolanda DeAngelis. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5-8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. Her funeral Procession will depart the funeral home Friday at 12:30 pm for her graveside service at Knollwood Memorial Park at 1 pm. 

DeLeon, Julia

Julia Irene DeLeon was born in Tela, Honduras to Stephen James and Clara Ramirez James and was baptized on January 4, 1932.  Julia’s mother passed away and shortly thereafter her dad re-married Elswith James who lovingly raised Julia as her own.  Julia attended and graduated from Francisco Morazán High School in the Republic of Honduras and volunteered as a nurse in Tela, Honduras until she met her soon to be husband Walter DeLeon.  She moved to the United States and married Walter DeLeon in Boston, MA on June 8, 1957. 

Julia is survived by her daughters, Blanca, Juanita and Rebecca; her sister Mavis, her brothers; Errol, Ray and Daniel; her son-in-law Jerome, her grandchildren; Elena, Christina, Wilson, Alex, Mark, Nina, Josech, Thomas, Leticia and Ridley, and a host of great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 6 to 8PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Mrs. DeLeon’s funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10AM in the funeral home chapel.  Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Boston.

Wooten, Arline R.

Arline Ruth (Hatch) Wooten, of Raymond, Maine, and formerly of Westwood and Walpole, died Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.  She was 90.  Arline was born February 10, 1929 in Biddeford, Maine, a daughter of Stanley and Ruth (Chellis) Hatch.  She worked as a sales clerk for Park Snow’s Department Store in Norwood Center and then for Kline’s which followed in the same location. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westwood.  Arline was the wife of the late Charles Ovid Wooten and the sister of the late Stanley Hatch and the late Pauline Pombriant.  She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra “Cassie” Macdonald, and her husband Laughlin “Locke”, of Raymond, Maine; her son, Robert L. Wooten, and his wife Judy, of Walpole; three grandchildren, Bradford Macdonald, and his wife Chemaine, Amy White, and her husband James, and Kara Wooten; and three great grandchildren, James White, Gavin White, and Layla Macdonald.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 17th, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment in Old Westwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 would be appreciated.
