Ludington, Roberta E.

Roberta Evelyn Ludington, a resident of Brookline, and formerly of Hyde Park, died Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.  She was 74.  Roberta was born December 20, 1945 in San Bernadino, California, a daughter of Robert E. and Alice Lillian (Harwood) Ludington.  She worked as an assembler for Lifeworks in Jamaica Plain.  Visitation will be held Friday, February 28, 2020 from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 4:40 pm.  After cremation Roberta will be buried with her parents at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.

Komuniecki, Jean M.

Jean Marie Komuniecki, a resident of Westwood, died Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Seasons Hospice Home in Milton.  She was 69.  Jean was born September 6, 1950in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the only daughter of Bernice and Walter Komuniecki Jr.  She graduated from Pittsfield High School, earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts , and her Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts.  Jean worked as an accountant for Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.  She enjoyed sudoku, cooking and gardening.  Jean was the wife of the late Edmund Peter Tutlys, who predeceased her in 2005, and is survived by her son, Patrick J. Tutlys of Westwood, and her two brothers, Richard and Robert Komuniecki.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Monday, March 2, 20202 at 11 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood.  Interment in New Westwood Cemetery will follow.  In lieu of flowers donations to the American Lung Association, 1661 Worcester Road, Suite 301, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated. 

Byrnes, Bernard A.

Bernard Arthur Byrnes, a resident of Westwood since 1978, and formerly of Hyde Park, died Sunday, February 23, 2020 at his home in Westwood.  He was 87.  Bernard was born June 4, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of Bernard and Dorothea Olga (Lunderkin) Byrnes. Bernard was a career military man, having served in the Marine Reserves, the Airforce, the Coast Guard, and the Navy Reserves.  After his military service he worked as an aircraft maintenance planner for Eastern Airlines for 25 years, then ten years in Veteran’s Services for the Veterans Administration and finally ten years as the National Services Officer for the VFW.  Bernard was a member of the US Airforce Air Weather Association, the US Coast Guard Lightship Sailors Association, the Needham VFW, the Dedham DAV, and a volunteer at the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital.  He also enjoyed gardening and travel.  Bernard is survived by his wife, Fridel Gretel (Mann) Byrnes; his two sons, Eric H. Byrnes, and his wife Dalila, of Walpole, and Paul O. Byrnes, and his wife Mary Beth, of Walpole; and his two grandchildren, Emily and Joseph Byrnes.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood.  Private interment with military honors was at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Fisher House, PO Box 230, South Walpole, MA 02071 or to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick St., Norwood, MA 02062 would be appreciated. 

MacFadden, Teresa

Teresa (Landers) MacFadden, a resident of Westwood, died Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Norwood Hospital.  She was 90.  Teresa was born June 3, 1929 in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland.  She worked as a midwife.  Teresa enjoyed reading poetry, walking and watching television.  She was the wife of the late Charles Pierce MacFadden and was the greatest Mom of Patrick MacFadden and Carmen MacFadden, both of Westwood; the proud grandmother of Charles MacFadden, Sasha Naddaff, and the late Erika MacFadden; the loving great grandmother of Zoe Naddaff, and Angelica Ribeiro; and the dear sister of Ted Landers of Carlisle.  Services and interment will be private.

Crawford, Jacqueline

Jacqueline Elizabeth (Law) Crawford, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Maples Nursing Home in Wrentham after a brief illness.  She was 89.  Jackie was born March 3 1930 in Brockton, Massachusetts, the only daughter of James Hodge and Henrietta Sadie (Files) Law.  She graduated from Winthrop High School and the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston.  Jackie worked as a medical secretary at Boston Children’s Hospital before leaving the workforce to raise her family.  She later worked as the Church Secretary at the First Baptist Church of Westwood for five years before working as the Executive Secretary to Graham Long, the President of the Dedham Cooperative Bank in Dedham Square for 20 years.  Jackie was an active “behind the scenes” member of the First Baptist Church of Westwood.  She was a member of the Dorcas Society, and she used her artistic talents in the Church’s Crafters Guild, and volunteered at every church fair.  She also volunteered at the Westwood High School where she was know as the “knitting and cookie lady”.  She created prayer shawls, booties and hats for premature infants, and she made hooked rugs and braided rugs. 

 Jackie was the wife of the late William Nathan Crawford who predeceased her in 1997, and is survived by her three daughters, Dana L. Farley of Dedham, Alison C. Majkut, and her husband Allan, of West Warwick, Rhode Island, and Robin R. Towle, and her partner Gary Sheehan, of Norfolk; her son, William Douglas Crawford, and his wife Margaret, of Avon, Connecticut; her seven grandchildren, Kristin Farley, Melissa Farley, and her partner Tim O’Neil, Heather Majkut-St. George, and her husband Matthew St. George, Wesley Majkut, Matthew Towle, Jessica Towle, and her fiancé Dan Houston, and William Thomas Crawford; as well as her former son-in-law Daniel Towle.  She was the sister of the late Allen Files Law and the late James Rae Law.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Westwood, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA 02090.  Private interment will be in the New Westwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church (address above). A collation will follow the service.

Joshua, Vijay

Vijay K. Joshua, 82 of Norwood, MA. Passed away peacefully on January 26, 2020. Devoted Husband to Lata (who pre-deceased him by 7 years), caring brother to Pushpalata, uncle to Ajay, Lalita, Ranjana and David; Also survived by cousins in Indiana and India. Additionally pre-deceased by one brother and two sisters in India. Vijay earned his MBA at the University of Maine in Orono, ME before settling into a career lasting 40+ years in the Norwood, MA area where he developed close bonds with all who knew him. Vijay was active at multiple area houses of worship, including Carter Memorial UMC of Needham Heights and was heavily involved within his local chapter of Rotary International – like his father before him. Vijay enjoyed music (himself, an accordion player in his youth), playing racquetball and was an avid fan of his beloved Boston area sports teams. He was also known for introducing many friends to the Indian restaurants of the greater Norwood area and was well-known to their proprietors. Private funeral arrangements will be coordinated by Folsom Funeral Service, Saturday, February 29, 2020, followed by a private memorial service to be held at Carter Memorial UMC of Needham Heights. Hennessey, Michael J.

Michael Joseph Hennessey, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at his home in Hyde Park.  He was 69. Michael was born April 14, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the three sons of James Jerome and Dorothy Margaret (Kenney) Hennessey.  He graduated from the Boston Police Academy and worked in the Boston gang unit, the Youth Violence Strike Force and was involved in the 10 point coalition before retiring as the Assistant Chief of the Boston School Police.  Michael also enjoyed travel, especially to the Dominican Republic, and was a civil war buff.  He is survived by his son, Michael J. Hennessey II of Hyde Park; his grandson, Michael J. Hennessey III; and his brother, Daniel Hennessey of Denver, Colorado.  He was the brother of the late Jerry Hennessey.  Visiting hours will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10 am till noon at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by his funeral mass in St. Pius X Church, 101 Wolcott St, Milton at 12:30 pm.  Interment will be private.

Arntz, Ronald A.

Ronald Allen Arntz, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, MA.  He was 81.  Ron was born March 16, 1938 in Boston, MA, a son of Royal B. and Rose Marie (Palermo) Arntz.  He attended Wentworth Institute for a year before enlisting in the US Army for three years.  Ron worked as an engrave for Model Engineering Corporation of Holbrook.  He played trombone and was a fan of big band music (a trait instilled in him by his parents; his father Royal formed a dance band with his twin brother called Herbert Marsh and his Royal Marshalls, and his mother Rose who was a professional dancer and performer on the vaudeville circuit).  Ron was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and enjoyed hiking and canoeing, enjoyed American History, and was a talented handiman.  He was also a member of the First Parish Church of Westwood.  Ronald is survived by his wife, Mildred Mabel (Coan) Arntz; his daughter, Karen Diane Arntz of Boston; two grandchildren, Aurora Arntz and Julia Morgan; and his brother, Dennis Arntz of Laguna Niguel, California.  He was he brother of the late Valerie Vincent.  Private interment was in the Garden at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.  Relatives and friends are invit4ed to attend his Memorial Service Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1 pm at the Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford Street, West Roxbury.  In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Rose’s Bounty (a food pantry started by his late mother) c/o the Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 would be appreciated.

Crossman, Howard

Howard W. Crossman, a resident of Dedham, passed away on February 3, 2020 at the age of 80.  Born in Cambridge, MA the son of Howard L. Crossman and Florence E. Wakelam.  Growing up in Milton, MA and graduating from Milton High School, Class of 1959, he then went on to attend Suffolk University.  In 1960 Howard and his mother moved to Dedham.  His father had passed away in 1955.  Early in his career he was a youth counselor in the town.  He later became a parole officer for Norfolk County until his retirement.  Howard’s dedication was helping those less fortunate.  He volunteered in shelters and maintained correspondence with some of the men he knew that were incarcerated.  He had several interests.  Howard loved driving classic cars.  He was an active member of the Bay State Antique Auto Club.  His pride and joy was his 1970 Volvo sedan which he kept in mint condition.  A lover of  movies and music, he possessed an extensive collection of DVD’s, videos and CD’s which ranged from the classics to modern.  Howard didn’t have any family in the United States but did have several cousins in England; Florence and Kenneth Jepson, Madge and Robert Hope, Paul Wakelem, Janet Homer, Maureen Ann Billingham, Jennifer Mary Walters,  Helen Wendy Jones, Eric Kenneth Thursfield and Anthony William Thursfield along with his second cousins; Angela Jepson,  Jeremy Jepson, Adrian Fereday and Edwin Fereday.   Howard and his family would frequently exchange visits with each other.   Although he was intensely private and independent, he was beloved by his friends, neighbors and the members of Allin Congregational Church in Dedham which he attended every Sunday.  He will be missed!  Friends are invited to attend his funeral service at graveside on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 12:30PM in Milton Cemetery, 211 Centre St., Milton, MA where he will be laid to rest with his parents.

Wong, David A. Sr.

David Allan Wong Sr, a resident of Norwood, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham. He was 88. David was born April 6, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the three children of Samuel K. and Faith Lillian (Chin) Wong, immigrants from China. David was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952 to 1954 in the US Marine Corps. He earned his undergraduate degree from Boston University in 1956 and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Boston College in 1970. David worked as a program manager for GTE Corporation. He was an avid reader, and passionate Boston sports fan. A competitor at heart, he enjoyed playing tennis and basketball. David sang in the church choir and for 60 years was an active and faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Norwood. He was a member of the Norwood Senior Center, volunteered at the Norwood Food Pantry, and also delivered Meals on Wheels. David was the devoted husband of the late Annie (Fong) Wong who predeceased him in 2013, and the brother of the late Richard A. Wong, and the late Doris M. Wong. He is survived by his four daughters, Cathleen W. Blair, and her husband Dennis, of Groton, Julie A. Cusack of Attleboro, Melinda J. Arthur, and her husband Bob, of Franklin, and Carol W. Malachowski, and her husband Paul, of Franklin; his son, David A. Wong Jr., and his wife Karen, of Norwood; his grandchildren, Amanda, and her husband Brandon, Robert, Andrew, Michael, Kayla, Matthew, Christopher, Benjamin, Samuel, and Stephanie; and his two great grandchildren, Colton and Cora. Private interment was at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb 29th at 11 am at the First Congregational Church of Norwood, 100 Winter Street, Norwood, MA 02062. In lieu of flowers donations to the Music Fund of the First Congregational Church (address above) or to the Norwood Ecumenical Food Pantry, 150 Chapel St, Norwood, MA 02062 would be greatly appreciated.
