Daley, Helen

Helen J. (Giblin), of Plymouth, and formerly of Norwood, passed away on January 18, 2021 at the age of 95. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph C. Daley and the dear aunt of Nancy Smolinsky of Plymouth, Laurie Sheridan of Bridgewater, Mary Hughes of Mansfield, Diane Sheehan of Norwood, as well as many other loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. We will all miss your laugh and warm smile. You endured many hardships throughout your long life and were a true fighter until the end. The Angels have taken you to meet with the love of your life, your husband Joe. You were the last of the “Greatest Generation” of Giblin siblings. Now, you are all joined in Heaven. We will love you and miss you forever. Rest in eternal peace. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 8:30-10:30 AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, WESTWOOD, followed by a private Mass. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Owens, David J.

David Joseph Owens, a longtime resident of Westwood, and formerly of Dedham, died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the West Roxbury Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Boston.  He was 82.  David was born June 5, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Clarence J. and Frances (MacDonald) Owens.  He graduated from Dorchester High School and enlisted in the US Navy for two years until his honorable discharge as a Fireman.  
David worked as a manager for the US Post office until his retirement in 1993. He had previously worked as a dispatcher for the Boston Fire Department. David served as a Director and Chairman of the Boston Post Office Employee Credit Union, as well as a Director of the Tremont Credit Union. He also enjoyed the years he spent working at Fenway Park. He was a former member of the McKeon Post 146 in Dorchester, the Norwood Elks, and a member of the Dedham Men’s Club. 
David was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his cottage in Warner, NH. He also loved taking long walks, and spending time, with his dog Colby. 
David is survived by his wife, Barbara Owens; his son, Stuart W. MacLean, and his wife Judy, of Norton; his daughter, Lisa Buckley, and her husband Matthew, of Mansfield; and his son Robert MacLean, and his wife Angela, of Norwood; his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Elyse, Lindsay, Christopher, Michael, Eric, and Lauren; his three great grandchildren, Charlotte, Kinsley, and Ryleigh; 
He is survived by his sister, Carol Harney, and was the brother of the late Donald Owens, and the late Mary Ellen Owens.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Due to covid gathering restrictions, services and interment with Military Honors at New Westwood Cemetery will be private. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

Easland, Stella

Stella (Kallas) Easland, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Friday, January 1, 2021 at Benchmark Senior Living on Clapboardtree in Norwood.  She was 91.  Stella was born April 6, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, the only daughter of the Reverend John Kalapothakis and Nicoletta (Tsaras) Kalapothakis, immigrants from Greece.  She graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s degree and completed most of her courses towards a Master’s degree.  Stella worked for 20 years as an assistant editor for Houghton Mifflin Company and then 20 years as a switchboard operator for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  She was the wife of the late Robert Peter Easland Jr. who predeceased her in 1990 and the sister of the late Louis Callas, and the late George Kalapothakis.  Stella is survived by her three sons, Robert Peter Easland III of Norwood, John Easland of Millis, and David Easland of Westwood; her daughter, Janet Yavarow, and her husband Steven, of Norfolk; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Andrea Yavarow.  Services at St. Gregory the Theologian Church in Mansfield and interment in New Westwood Cemetery in Westwood will be private due to covid attendance restrictions.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 021340 would be appreciated. 

French, Lillian R.

Lillian Rosaria. (Guarneri) French, a resident of Menifee, California, and  formerly of Hyde Park, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at her son’s home.  She was 88.  Lillian was born May 13, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph W. and Lillian (Pirotta) Guarneri, immigrants from Italy. She was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School. Lillian was the wife of the late William E French Sr., and dear mother of William E. Jr., and his wife Virginia, Donna Langlois, Carol Kuhn, and her husband James, and the late Lillian Harrison, and her husband Michael. Sister-in-law of James French, and his wife Carol Vento. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside Service Saturday at 11 am at Rock Ridge Cemetery in Sharon.

Huggan, Rita E.

Rita Ellen (Rawley) Huggan, a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston.  She was 92. Rita was born February 20, 1928 in Dedham, Massachusetts the daughter of Elton Madison and Betha A. (Mortenson) Rawley.  She graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1945.  In 1946 she married Frederick E. Huggan to whom she was married for 69 years until he predeceased her in 2015.  Rita worked as a bookkeeper for Alllis Chalmers in Readville for several years until the birth of their daughter.  Rita was a rabid Red Sox fan and she enjoyed league bowling.  Rita was the dear mother of Nancy E. Pelaggi of Dedham and her late husband Michael A., Robert E. Huggan and his wife Elizabeth M. of Franklin, the late Donald W. Huggan and the late John S. Huggan. She was the proud grandmother of Donald Huggan Jr., and his wife Gayle, John Pelaggi and his wife Angie, Michael Pelaggi and his wife Kathleen, Meghan Huggan Esq., and Connor Huggan and his fiancé Evalina Parlato, and the loving great-grandmother of Cole, Autumn, and Siena Pelaggi. Rita was the sister of the late Al and Clifford Rawley, Dorothy Frasier, and Nancy Gooklin. Services and interment in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton were private. Beiersdorf, Augusta M.

Augusta May Beiersdorf, daughter of August and Ida (Macintosh), fiancée of the late Earl Spear passed away December 14, 2020 at her home at New Pond Village in Walpole. She was 102 years of age. Augusta grew up in Boston. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and worked for the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company for 46 years. Since 1992, Augusta has resided at New Pond Village in Walpole, MA. Augusta is survived by cousins Baker Smith, Johanna Smith, Debbie Penner, Nancy Stetson and Ruth Estes. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Ave. Roslindale  Monday, December 21st at 10 am and proceed with us to Milton Cemetery in Milton for her graveside service at 11 am. A memorial service will be held at a later date when covid restrictions are reduced. Stampfl, Louise

Louise Matilda (Becker) Stampfl, of Riverview, MI, formally of Norwood, MA, died on November 25, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Stampfl. Loving mother to Timothy and John Malboeuf and stepmother to Jessica Cady and Heather Walkins (Stampfl). She was the proud grandmother to Erik, Jaquelynn, Timothy, Rebecca, John, Jacoby, Jasper, Julianna, Grace, & Xavier and great grandmother to Ellie and Kaiden. She was the dear sister to Clara, Emil, Georgia, John, the late Robert, Barbara, Carl, and Marie. Louise was a proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Emil Becker. Louise was known as Weezie and Beezie by her family and friends. She loved floral arranging and decorating for Christmas which she enjoyed with Wally. She also loved art and crafts, storytelling, and singing silly songs. Louise retired in 2009 after many years working at Norwood Hospital as an EDI records processer. She also worked for Sears and spent many years at The Kendall Company in Walpole, MA. Louise was a member of the United Church of Norwood before moving to Riverview, MI in 2010 where she was a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Cyprian Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13th, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service Friday, May 14th, 2021 at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, MA. Carchia, Dorothy E.

Dorothy Elizabeth “Lee” (Copeland) Carchia, a resident of Dedham, and formerly of Waltham, MA for many years, died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood, MA. She was 98. Lee was born February 20, 1922 in Newton, Massachusetts, the last surviving of the four children of William Pittblade and Ida Emily (Silver) Copeland. She grew up in Newton and attended business school after high school. In her early years, Lee was a professional dancer who met her husband in a nightclub where he was playing clarinet in the band. Lee also worked for many years at Thermo Electron in Waltham, MA as the Production Manager of the Technical Typing Department. She collected and made porcelain dolls, enjoyed painting, drawing and woodworking, and bowled in a league in West Roxbury. Lee was the wife of the late Victor Robert “Bobby” Carchia, the mother of the late Janet Lee Carchia and the late Jonathan Copeland Carchia; sister of the late Ida Emily Fals, the late Eunice Mary LaRonde, and the late William Pittblade Copeland. She is survived by her nieces, Christine (Copeland) Olagundoye of Los Angeles, CA, Carolyn Elizabeth Thompson of Issaquah WA, and nephews, Carl William Copeland and Robert Morton Copeland, both of Bergen, Norway. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Linda Killian, as well as several cousins and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Private burial will be at Newton cemetery, Newton, MA. Merritt, Michael S.

Michael Stephen Merritt, a resident of Dedham, died Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham.  He was 78.  Michael was born January 22, 1942 in Portsmouth, England, one of the two sons of Charles and Elsie (Hancell) Merritt.  He was a Master Pest Technician for Waltham Pest Services for 32 years until his retirement in 2012.  Michael enjoyed dancing, fishing , and was a longtime bowler at the Boston Bowl alleys in Dorchester. Michael is survived by his wife, Janice Catherine (Medwid) Merritt; his son, John M. Merritt and Lori Hynes, of Dedham; his brother David Merritt of Gosport, England; his grandchildren, Travis and Connor Merritt; and his niece, Michelle Holding.  he was the brother-in-law of the late Brenda Merritt.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 1st from 10 am till noon at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by a graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston at 12:30 pm.

Clark, Dean M.

Dean Mitchell Clark, a resident of Dedham, died Monday, November 23, 2020 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a short illness.  He was 68.  Dean was born October 5, 1952 in Clearwater, Florida, the only child of Clyde and Marilyn (Kaufman) Clark.  Dean was a mechanic at Norwood Cadillac.  Dean is survived by his wife, Jean C. (Galvin) Clark; his daughter, Theresa Long, and her husband Donald, of Dedham; and his two sons, Paul Clark, and his wife Suzanne, of Dedham, and David Clark, and his wife Annie, of Franklin.  He was the loving Grampa/”Beep” of Matthew, David, Christopher, Fallon and Justin.  Visiting hours will be held Saturday, November 28th from 2 to 4 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Services and interment will be private.  Dean’s family would like to thank the Dedham first responders and the staff of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
